Eulogy James L. Carter, was the second born son of Linville Ried and Ruth Ann, born August 31, 1934 in Clarksburg West VA. He stayed in Fairmont West VA with his aunt. He attended Dunbar High School in Clarksburg, VA and graduated in 1952. Immediately afterwards he enlisted in the Navy where he received an honorable discharge in 1956. He obtained work as maintenance technician in Florida in the early 1950's, it was then he realized that Florida would eventually be his permanent residence. He met Cesselyn Barker in 1953 in Jamaica whom he eventually married on April 12, 1958. He relocated to Philadelphia, where he had his five children. He went to school to become a welder, however he would end up as an employee of the United States postal service in 1966 where he retired after 30 years in 1993. He decided to fulfill his lifelong dream by moving his family to Miami Florida in 1989 and then retiring to the beautiful Sunshine State. James was skilled in multiple trades including plumbing, carpentry, electrical. His hobbies were boxing, weightlifting and restoring antique cars. He was a loving father, friend and confidant. He was dedicated to protecting and providing for his family and a man of honor and loyalty. He was easy going, soft spoken man and always willing to lend an ear, and provide a shoulder to cry on. His first love was for singing and music and he always enjoyed entertaining at nursing facilities and church events. He always had a smile on his face that would brighten the room, and a song in his heart that would uplift your spirit. Over the past several years he faced many health challenge and he departed this life on Sunday, December 7. 2014. He had a zest for life, and loved his family, who he leaves to cherish his most precious memories; a devoted wife, Cesselyn Carter, five children Rowena Saracino, James L Carter Jr., Ruth Lonon, Anthony Carter, and Mara Carter; seven grand-children, eight great-grandchildren, several cousins, and numerous friends. We will miss you dearly!
