I lost track of Father Oscar after shortly after he married my 1st wife and I before we moved to Boston. He was my mentor and friend while I lived in Tallahassee in 1986-1989. There are no words to describe the impact this man had on my life. He was the sole reason I had faith and belief in the grace and goodness capable in humankind. I’m a classical musician and we would sit and listen to Mahler. He was quite a good artist! He had painted a progressive, provocative painting of Jesus upside down that spoke so eloquently to me about the abuse of doctrine. I’m not sure if he meant it that way, but he allowed me to define what spoke to me without injecting his view. He was the master of getting you to open up and he would just listen, gently guiding you with brilliant questions that led you down deeper paths of self-discovery.
A truly spiritual, fully giving man whose presence on this earth was truly a gift from God.
