Obituary of Bernardine Martinez

Please share a memory of Bernardine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernardine Martinez, born May 6,1929 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on July 3rd, 2020. Her friends and family called her by her nickname 'Nina'. She was a small petite woman, but she was strong and independent. She married Pedro Martinez in 1954 in a small church in Jackson, New Jersey where she lived with her husband and children most of their lives until they retired to Sunny South Florida. She loved to cook, work in the yard doing gardening, pets, attend church, host large family gatherings, and continued to lead the family after her husband passed in 2006. Bernardine was a seamstress, which included custom alterations as well as complete wardrobes for special events. She was a great cook and worked in the industry for many years. Bernardine and Pedro loved to travel when they could, and she was an avid dominoes player (as long as you played by her rules) which tended to change game to game, until the Alzheimer's/Dementia Disease curbed her activities. Bernardine is predeceased by her husband Pedro Martinez, her parents Vicente Garcia and Luisa Albarran, sisters Celia Rios, Carmen Garcia, and brothers Miguel Garcia and Antonio Garcia. She is survived by her 3 daughters Marilyn Martinez-Pinault, Beverlyn Gomez, Arleen Policastro & spouses also by Lillian Martinez and Wilson Cortez, whom she raised as her own. She is also survived by her sister Catalina Martinez and two brothers Vincente Garcia Jr. and Raul Garcia and her legacy also includes 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was deeply loved, and will be incredibly missed.
