In Memoriam: Robert Terrell Sumpter

July 15, 1947 - November 13, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Terrell Sumpter, age 77, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, on November 13, 2024. Robert was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to Louis Franklin and Florence Sumpter. He graduated from Englewood High School in Jacksonville in 1965 and went on to serve his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

Robert furthered his education at Miami Dade Jr. College before earning a degree in Human Resources & Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1972. He spent many successful years as a mortgage broker and was known for his integrity and dedication.

A golfer, reader, and lover of camping and traveling, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Carmen Sumpter; daughters Melanie Barr and Michelle Hager (Eric); grandchildren Dylan and Kelsey Barr, Emily and Hailey Hager; his brother Ralph Sumpter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Louis Senior and Florence Sumpter, and his brothers Louis Jr. and Raymond Sumpter.

A viewing will be held on November 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Scarano Funeral Home, 9000 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. A service will begin at 11:30 AM, with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449.
