CUMBERMACK
Desmond Victor
Family and friends, welcome to a celebration in honor of Desmond Victor Cumbermack; a free-spirited individual who graced this world for 83 years. Born on December 23, 1941, Desi lived a life full of love, energy and boundless faith.
A devoted spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend—his journey began in Trinidad, where he grew up surrounded by family and friends that were a witness to his carefree persona and positive outlook on life.
At the age of 27, he moved to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and was later joined by his wife and 4 girls. A few years later they had a son, which completed the family. In St. Thomas he wore many hats and held various positions; many of them involving socializing and engaging with others. He worked as an accountant, front desk manager, food service manager, and car salesman; just to name a few. However, one held his heart throughout his life. Being a Chef and cooking for others became a passion that would surpass all others. Desi also exuded positive energy and a comedic interpretation of life. He always had a joke to share, and his delivery was always on point.
Blessed with a heart of gold and a generous nature, he embraced life and always found humor in every situation. Once, he did a comedy skit for a church theater presentation. As a family, we often saw his jokes as corny. Imagine the surprise of his wife and children as they watched as the congregation were practically rolling in the aisles over his “corny” jokes. Although brief, he had a successful stint as a stand-up comedian.
Desi also had other hobbies. He loved building bird cages and catching birds, parakeets and parrots, in particular. Digging around in cars, as a matter of fact, the older the better was another passion. His favorite was the Toyota Previa. Perusing junk yards for car parts was a favorite past-time. He also continued to cook, providing catering services for friends and family parties and get togethers.
In 2005, Desi was involved in a serious car accident that affected his mobility and impacted his health for years to come. Despite the challenge, he rallied and relied on his strong faith to help him through this very difficult time in his life.
As we remember Desi today, let us celebrate the legacy he left behind. A legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. Although he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. What will also remain, is his passionate love for family, family gatherings and parties, and an absolute joy in music and dancing.
As a testament to his faith, the last text to many of us a couple of days prior to his passing said, “I looked up through the window and saw the moon peeping at me. I have not seen that in years. It was 6 am… wow! God’s grace and blessings… in awe.”
Rest in peace, Desi, you will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever be a blessing to us all.

Michael Cumbermack’s tribute to his brother:
My dear brother Desmond, AKA Desi. It is with a very heavy heart that I write this tribute to you. Is this just a dream? I never thought in my wildest dreams that this day would come, not only did it come, but it came with a whirlwind, so fast that we never got to say goodbye.
You have left us and gone into the sunset with your Lord Jesus Christ, that you talked about daily. You’ve had a life full of humor and laughter, not just for yourself, but with every single person you came into contact with. It was always a hundred percent fun and laughter. You had the ability to be witty with everything that someone said, you took it and
made it humorous. I really think you chose the wrong profession. Growing up with you had its normal ups and downs, but I still would not have traded you for any other brother.
Neither the span of miles nor the different paths we took can change the feelings that we had for each other. A LOVE that will be forever with me as long as I live. On every journey, at some point it will end, but “THE ANCHOR HOLDS”.
You’ve been following the Lord for many many years, and I’m so very proud of the stance you took for the Lord, especially evidenced by the vehicle you drove. You wanted the world to know that Jesus is Lord and we all must be born again to be saved and receive His salvation.
I would be remiss if I conclude this tribute without mentioning words that are so dear to me.
“God looked around his paradise garden and saw an open space. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your beautiful face. He then reached down and held you in his arms and said “Son, come, it’s time to go up high”, and took you to his heavenly place, that’s way beyond the beautiful sky.
Thank you, my brother, for being my brother. We cannot share tomorrows anymore, but yesterdays will always be remembered with the great joy you brought us all.
Rest in peace, in
Michael, your only brother.
