Obituary of Joseph J. Neary
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph “Joe” Neary passed away surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his home in Pembroke Pines, Florida, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 59.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Neary; his children, Kristyn Tobacco, Kasidy Neary, Kaylie Neary, and Cody Brown; his son-in-law, Tommy Tobacco; daughter-in-law, Cathy Brown; grandchildren, Connor Tobacco, Jaxson Tobacco, and Olivia Brown; his mother, Patricia Ziegler, and stepfather, Gary Ziegler; and his sisters, Patti Byrne, Christine Rappaport, and Kaitlyn Sansoni. He was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Neary.
Joe was born on April 20, 1966, in Pennsylvania. He grew up in Elkins Park and Cheltenham, PA, and graduated from George Washington High School in 1984. Joe enlisted in the army and upon discharge moved to Florida. After moving, Joe began his career at Publix Supermarkets. Through mutual friends and coworkers, he met Denise, and they married on July 15, 1989. They shared 35 years of marriage filled with countless cherished memories alongside their children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Joe retired from Publix in 2016 as an assistant store manager, having made lasting impressions and friendships throughout his career. A few years into retirement, he began working as a clerk at the Broward County Courthouse, where he continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic and loving personality, quickly forming new friendships.
Beyond his relationships, Joe had a deep passion for life. His favorite place was the beach, especially at sunset. A loyal fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, Joe proudly passed on his love for Philly sports to his children. He was also a music lover—always playing his favorite songs loudly and dancing with his loved ones (and yes, the man could dance!). Joe was an excellent cook, famously known for his Sunday night homemade spaghetti and meatball dinners, where everyone was welcome.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2025, at Scarano Funeral Home, located at 9000 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. Viewing hours will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend, honor, and celebrate Joe’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family has created a GoFundMe to help fulfill Joe’s final wish: visiting Ireland and spreading some of his ashes there.
