Obituary of Karen Lee Brown

Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Karen Lee Kwiatkowsky (Deegan) (Nicholas) (Brown) Our beloved wife, mother, and nana passed away peacefully on Sunday June 1st, 2025, at the age of 71. Karen’s life began on September 21st, 1953 in Canonsburg, PA. She was the daughter of Edith Foote, with whom she also shared a birthday. She was a sister to Rich Kwiatkowsky and loving aunt to his two children, Luke and Terry Kwiatkowsky, and dear friend to their mother Lucille. Karen's exciting journey was just beginning and with the loving support of her mother she graduated from Washington School of Nursing in 1973. Shortly after, she moved to south FL and started her career in nursing at Holy Cross Hospital in 1974. After forming friendships within her nursing team it was there that she decided to further her career and become a Nurse Midwife. Being the strong and determined professional that she was she made her dream into a reality. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1986. Karen’s passion for women’s health and education aided her in ensuring that her patients delivered healthy babies into this world. This was at the heart of who she was. So much so that she adopted her daughter Jami Adele Deegan (Perez) in March of 1983, and then her son Eric John Deegan in July of 1988. Her life's journey continued on December 12, 2011 when she married Joseph William Brown, her surviving husband and friend. Together they enjoyed many of life's adventures. Traveling across the country to the Midwest in their camper with their pups, many of these being her most favorite memories. Before her retirement she had worked nearly two decades alongside colleagues that had become life-long friends in Labor & Delivery at Memorial Regional Hospital. Three of her grandchildren, Natalie (2004), Chloe (2007) and Julian (2010) were just a few of her deliveries through the years. When her fourth grandchild, Connor was born in July 2017, she became a nana for the fourth time! Although she will be greatly missed we are left without a doubt, that both her life and her heart were full. She will be remembered in love through the lives she has touched by her patients, colleagues, family members and friends. We were lucky to have had her in our lives for as long as we did. Please keep the Brown family in your thoughts and prayers. The Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel is honored to assist the Brown family with the arrangements. 954-438-8222
