Charles Raymond Bassford
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Charles Raymond Bassford, who left us on June 8, 2025. Charlie was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and a man of boundless knowledge, wit, and kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Josie Pupo-Bassford of Hollywood, FL, his children Kristy Bassford, Janelle DellaGenao/Giovanni Genao and Selene/Gabriel DellaLibera, all of Hollywood, FL, his sister, Victoria Bassford Duarte of Gastonia, NC, his grandchildren, Liana Genao, Skylar Bassford and Luca Genao. He is preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Rogers Bassford and David Lee Bassford, both of Hollywood, FL.
Professionally, Charlie was a highly respected Real Estate Broker. With over two decades of experience, Charlie was renowned for more than just his expertise; he was known for his character. Living by his mantra, 'Honesty and Integrity Above All Else,' he fostered profound trust with clients, who deeply appreciated his meticulous understanding of contract language and his steadfast commitment to their best interests and the invaluable insight gained from his years of construction experience.
Born with a natural curiosity and an insatiable desire to learn, Charlie was a master of many passions. He found immense joy and peace in fishing and boating, spending countless hours in the water. His keen eye and steady hand made him an expert target shooter, and he was a certified NRA instructor, sharing his knowledge and passion for firearms and safety. He possessed an uncanny knack for automobile mechanics, often able to diagnose car troubles over the phone with remarkable accuracy. Charlie was also a talented woodworker, creating beautiful pieces with his hands and a true craftsman's touch. A loyal fan through thick and thin, he passionately cheered on his adored Miami Dolphins. When it came to food, he was a master at smoking ribs, grilling steaks on his beloved Weber, and making his famous beef jerky.
Beyond his profession and his hobbies, Charlie's greatest joy was found in his family. He was a devoted husband who took immense pride in pampering his wife, always putting her happiness first. As a grandfather, Charlie was a true teddy bear – perhaps gruff on the outside, but a complete softie within. He adored spoiling Skylar and Luca, spending countless hours playing with them in the pool or braving sweltering heat at a park just to experience their joy. With Liana, now a young adult, Charlie maintained a playful stoic demeanor. It was often Liana who was the last to coax him into a family card game of Oonzie, his feigned resistance always giving way to her determined pleading. He'd also famously pretend to resist her hugs, only to secretly enjoy each embrace. He was truly the anchor of our family, our go-to guy, and our unwavering leader, always there, guiding us not with words, but through his unwavering actions, offering support and a steady hand. Charlie possessed a vast store of knowledge, which he jokingly referred to as "useless facts," but his competitive spirit and encyclopedic memory consistently led him to victory in Trivia Pursuit, as well as shouting out answers while watching Jeopardy.
Charlie was also fiercely proud to be a former Marine, a testament to his deep love for his country. He carried that pride with him always, standing at attention wherever he was when the national anthem played. He was known for a personality that was undeniably larger than life, a captivating blend of genuine kindness, disarming wit, and masterfully sarcastic, always ready with a sarcastic joke or a wry comment that was truly his signature. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and was never afraid to speak his mind, especially if it meant standing up for what he thought was right. Above all, Charlie loved his family more than anything in the world. His presence was a source of safety, laughter, and unwavering strength to all who knew him.
Charlie's unexpected passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family will live on in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and countless friends.
