James Lenwood Stubbs

February 2, 1946 – October 10, 2025


James Lenwood Stubbs was born on February 2, 1946, in Milledgeville, GA, the fifth of nine children. He graduated from JF Boddie High School in Baldwin County.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Stubbs, Sr. and Bertha Stubbs; sisters Juanita Morgan, Annie Curry, and Mary Nicholson; brothers Peter Stubbs, Richard Stubbs, Jr., and Ernest Stubbs; and grandson Kelvin (K Beazey) Stanton.


In the 1970s, James moved to Miami, where he worked in various jobs before beginning his long career with Florida Power & Light (FPL). Starting as a lineman, he worked his way up to foreman, where he earned the nickname “Stubby.” At FPL, James formed lifelong friendships and earned the respect of his colleagues. He later worked for the City of Lake Worth Power Company in the City of Lake Worth, FL, where he eventually retired.


James lived life to the fullest. He was a hardworking man with an infectious energy and charm that lit up any room. Known for his wit and sense of humor, he loved good music, dancing, and the thrill of a poker game.


James was deeply loved by his family, who will carry on his memory with fondness and gratitude.


James Lenwood Stubbs passed away peacefully in Miami, Florida, on October 10, 2025. He is survived by his four daughters: Sabrina Holsey, Daphne Johnson (Ronnie) of Milledgeville, GA, Tonya Stubbs-Kerr (Franklyn) of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Jamie Lynn Stubbs (Kareena) of Miami, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Stubbs (Betty), and sister, Gwendolyn Stubbs, both of Milledgeville, GA, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, as well as his life partner, Patricia Byrd.


In Repose Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Funeral Service at 1:00 P.M. following cremation at a late date. Please keep the Stubbs family in your thoughts and prayers. The Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel is Honored to assist the Stubbs family with the arrangements.
