Rawlston U. Forbes Obituary

Rawlston U Forbes was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 6, 1930. Raised in Franklin Town, Eastern St. Andrew, he studied accounting and business at Durham College of Commerce. His business skills led to a successful career as a customs broker with Jamaica Milk Products from 1969 to 1989. After his retirement, he established his own consultancy as a customs broker. He served leading businesses in Kingston.

His Roman Catholic faith was an integral part of his life, shaping his moral compass and guiding his actions. His kindness and altruism extended beyond family—he assisted many young people with school fees and university tuition. Dad was an active member of St. Benedict the Moor Parish for over 40 years, during which he belonged to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as its President for several years. He continued to provide meals every Sunday to the parishioners of African Martyrs until he emigrated to the USA.

Dad was reserved but resolute in his convictions. Introverted yet steadfast, he lived his values: supporting and loving family, showing respect, and offering kindness to all. His serene demeanor, dignity, and measured response to anger defined him to the end—even through the fog of dementia. These qualities touched everyone who knew him.

His steadfast character shone through in his most cherished relationship: Dad met his beloved wife, Barbara, whom he affectionately called his princess, in 1959. They married in 1962. Their beautiful union was blessed with their children: Carla, Christene, Mario, Trudy-Ann, and Lisan. He would agree that, by far, his greatest accomplishment was the warm home and joyful family life that he and Barbara fostered for their children, extended family, and all who were fortunate enough to enter their home.

This legacy of love lives on. He will be missed by his seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many friends. We will miss his twinkle and the comforting hand on our shoulder when he said, 'How are you doing? Good to see you.' We will also remember his laughter after winning a game of dominoes.

We will always dearly remember and miss you, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, in-law, and friend.
