Gilda June Pietro Obituary
Gilda June Pietro (Pupi), age 97, of Monaca, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on March 10, 2026, in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Born on June 25, 1928, in Monaca to Louis and Pauline (Pamphyllia Scogna) Pupi, Gilda grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the strong community ties that shaped her generous spirit. She attended grade school and high school in Monaca before pursuing her calling in nursing at Providence Hospital School of Nursing.
On July 1, 1950, Gilda married the love of her life, James Francis Pietro, in Monaca, Pennsylvania. Together they built a vibrant, bustling family, raising ten children—James, Christina, Joanna, Robert, Vincent, Gino, Paul, Steven, Gregory, and Pamela. Their life took them from Beaver Falls to Pittsburgh, and eventually to Pembroke Pines, Florida, in 1975 for James’s work. No matter the city, Gilda created a home filled with warmth, beauty, and welcome.
Gilda was a classic beauty with a generous heart, and everything she touched she made beautiful. As the mother of ten, she didn’t simply cook—she created meals from scratch that were works of art, nourishing both body and spirit. Her table was always full, yet somehow there was always room for one more.
A dedicated nurse, Gilda worked the night shift and still cared for her children during the day, embodying strength, devotion, and quiet resilience. After moving to Florida, she continued her life of service at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, where she worked as the sacristan. There, she tended to the needs of others with the same grace she brought to her home—making all who crossed her path feel welcome, important, and wanted.
She was loved. She will be missed. She was our guiding light—and we will carry her forward in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; her parents, Louis and Pamphylla Pupi; her son, Gino; her son-in-law, John Sheran; and her daughter-in-law, Diane (Vonachen) Pietro.
She will be deeply missed by her loving children, her brothers Louis, Paul, and Michael Pupi; her sisters Lenore Narvett, Roberta Dusold, and Julie Ann Zupi; her Aunt Emma Rocco; her eleven grandchildren; her 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and the numerous friends she met from the church she loved and worked at for over 40 years.
For those unable to attend in person, our service will be live-streamed at the following link: St Maximilian Kolbe Church youtube
Burial will be at a later date at the South Florida National Cemetery next to Jimmy, the love of her life.
