Patty and I met thirteen years ago when I moved to the 15th floor of the building where she resided with her beloved husband. We became good neighbors and friends immediately. As the years went by Patty and I became more like sisters. She was so beautiful inside and out and a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We shared great and happy spiritual moments at church and going to some church events. We enjoyed our brunches and "el cafesito". On special occasions we exchanged little gifts. Whenever we met in the hallway we hugged and chatted for a while. She was a source of inspiration to me in her devotion to God and to the blessed Virgin Mary, her home and her loving family. Today we celebrate her beautiful life, but I will celebrate her love and her memory for as long as I live. My heart aches as it is broken into pieces. Tears run from my eyes with the realization that she is no longer with us.
My dear Patty, you were a true gift to me. Thank you for being in my life; for your kindness; for your love and the memories we shared. When I see your door, it reminds me of the great woman who lived there and thank God for her.
To her beautiful family receive my heartfelt condolences for such an irreplaceable loss. May she live in your hearts forever.

Tia Patty, my Tia, you were one of the strongest people I knew. Thank you for being such an inspiring role model and for always showing so much love to my sister and me. I was grateful to hear all about how you were doing from my mother, always happy to hear the victories, and always thinking of you during the harder moments. Thank you for showing me what it is like to be an older sister, and the strength of sisterhood. May you rest in peace, and I love you very much.

My tia was an inspiring woman who was known for her style and the work she put into everything she did. She was extremely determined and dedicated to what she believed in, and that’s exactly why I think I had the honor of being named after her. I have always been able to think of my name as not only my own, but as a connection to one of my family members. She was loved dearly by my mom, my sister, and I , and our hearts will always cherish the moments we got to spend alongside her. The name connection was amazing, as I wasn’t always able to communicate directly with her. She spoke Spanish and I spoke English with minimal Spanish knowledge, yet we shared the same name. We both needed translators to understand the other, yet I still felt confident that I understood her character and was sure we were awfully similar. I will miss that connection, but I know it is still there through the people she held close. Love you so so much and we will miss you so much.
Rest in peace Tia Patty

Querida amiga:

Descansa en paz, hermana. Siempre te recordaré con amor.

For my sister, my best friend , my Patty
My heart is broken trying to find the words to say goodbye to my sister.
Patty was not just my sister. She was my best friend, my childhood companion, my confidante, and one of the people who knew me in a way that very few people ever could. We shared a lifetime of memories our childhood, our family, our laughter, our disagreements, our secrets, our dreams, and all the little moments that make up a life.
We could talk for hours and hours about everything and nothing. We would tell each other stories, share what was happening in our lives, laugh, complain, give each other advice, and sometimes just stay on the phone because we didn't want to hang up. Those conversations were such a big part of our relationship, and I would give anything to have one of those long calls with her again.
There are so many memories of us that live only in my heart. The things we laughed about, the conversations we had, the times we were there for each other, and even the moments when life wasn't easy. That is what being sisters is. It isn't a perfect story; it is a lifetime shared.
For the last several months, life put distance between us, and we were not able to talk the way we once did. They cannot erase all the years we loved each other, all the memories we created, or the place she will always have in my heart.
My sister, my best friend was so much more than the last chapter of her life.
She was my Patty.
She was the girl who grew up beside me in Colombia. She was the woman with whom I shared a lifetime of family memories. She was the person who could make me laugh, make me crazy, make me happy, and sometimes make me mad all in the same lifetime. She was my sister, and there will never be another person who can hold that place in my life.
Her granddaughters knew her as “Lela,” a beautiful name that belonged especially to them. But to me, she was Patty my sister, my only sister.
I will remember her voice, her laughter, her generosity, her love of beautiful things, her cooking, her dancing, her sense of style, and of course her famous “Primero el glamour” followed by her putting on lipstick. That was Patty.
I am grateful for every year, every memory, every laugh, every conversation, and every moment we shared.
I wish I could have one more conversation with you. One more hug. One more chance to tell you that I love you.
My beautiful sister, you will always be a part of me. Distance, time, silence, and even death cannot change that.
Te amo, Patty. Te voy a extrañar toda mi vida.
Descansa en paz, mi hermana.
Until we meet again.
Your sister,
Sandra
