Obituary of Marie - Therese Lominy

Marie Thérèse Lominy (née Thrasybule), went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2018 at the age of 87 in Miramar, Florida. She is survived by sisters Mireille St Cyr (husband Edwing, deceased), Huguette Charles (husband Guy), Vivianne Adrien (husband Nicolas), countless nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends of more than 60 years. Marie Thérèse, affectionately known as Boule, is predeceased by her beloved husband Gérard Lominy, parents Fabius and Carmen Thrasybule, and siblings including Jacques, Pierre, Raymond and Constant Thrasybule.

The fifth of 11 children and eldest daughter of Fabius and Carmen, Marie Thérèse was born on October 12, 1930 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She studied for 11 years with the sisters at Les Soeurs du Sacré Coeur de Turgeau before moving on to secretarial and bookkeeping studies at L’Institut Laroche, after which she ran various companies before turning her attention to her passion – haute couture. She completed correspondence studies with L’Institut de Haute Couture de Paris before moving to the United States to work with designers like Oscar de la Renta and Bill Tice in Manhattan’s garment district.

While Marie Thérèse and Gérard never had children of their own, they were devoted surrogate parents to so many, which she continued to do even after his sudden, tragic death in 1979. Her children are too numerous to name, from godchildren to nieces and nephews and the children of her dear friends, and she will be sorely missed by them all.

A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 9 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church at 19000 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33029. The family requests that any flowers for the altar, notably red roses, be sent directly to the church for the mass. Please do not send wreaths. For those who would prefer, the family asks that donations be made in Marie Thérèse’s name to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation or another reputable organization working in the field of dementia research.
