Obituary of Margarita Harrison

Please share a memory of Margarita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margarita Harrison was born in Barranquilla Colombia on November 22, 1920. In a loving catholic Christian family she had 9 brothers and 2 sisters. In 1947 she moved to Panama to join her sister Isabel and opened a seamstress shop, where her love for sewing would shine threw in every beautiful piece of clothing she would make. After years of working in her seamstress shop she would notice an Irish man who would walk by her shop every day. This man was Elmer Francis Harrison he was a civil engineer that worked for the Panama Canal. He was a kind, hardworking, loving man that absolutely adored his soon to be wife. Elmer and Margarita were married in a catholic church and would be blessed to have two beautiful children, Margaret and Homer. After being married for many years she became a widow in 1962. The passing of her loving husband Elmer was devastating and she made the decision to take her children and move back to Colombia to be surrounded by the love of her family. In 1966 Margarita and her children make the long journey from Colombia and move to New York. Her daughter Margaret meets a loving Greek man named Socratis Porfiris and soon after meeting would get married. After marrying the whole family would move to Hollywood Florida. Socratis and Margaret had 4 sons, Theodore, peter, John-Paul and Michael. She would live her entire life with her daughter and Socratis. Margarita dedicated all her time to helping her daughter help raise her 4 beautiful boys. Threw out her life she would deidicate her loving spirit to her whole family, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many cousins, and spouses of her children and grandchildren. Being such a spiritual women she would always give the sign of the blessing to every person that she would meet. Her son Homer has 2 beautiful children, Nicholas and Blair, that were also a part of her life. Margarita enjoyed life! Living a stress free life surrounded by so much loving family and friends she enjoyed everything life had to offer, many adventurous trips around the world, many joyous holidays, fun days at the beauty parlor with her daughter, cooking her many famous dishes, dancing to her favorite native song from Colombia "La Cumbia", going to her favorite church "little flower" where her grandchildren had also attended school at, and taking time out to read her bible, recite her novenas and doing her rosary daily. Her devotion to the sacred heart and the Virgin Mary showed everywhere in the home. She instilled her faith and devotion to everyone that was a part of her life. Margarita was known to everyone as "Yaya". Yaya was the greek name for grandmother. Yaya lived such a long life she was able to see her grandchildren, Nicholas and Blair, her great grandchildren Adrianna and Katlyn and Kaleb grow up. Again always making sure to bless all her grandchildren and family every time she saw them and teaching them her powerful knowledge of the catholic faith. Even towards the end of her life when Yaya started to get sick the whole family including Amy, Julie, her care taker Clara, her nieces Margith, Selene, Marilin and many more would all come together to make sure yaya would continue to make sure she was well taken care of and surrounded by love. She was never left alone always making sure someone was by yaya's side and still continued to live an active adventurous life. Going to the family restaurant every day to spend quality time with family and doing her daily prayers with her daughter or care taker Clara. Yaya was a very wise and spiritual woman that lived a long life seeing and experiencing many things in her life. Even until her last day she was surrounded by family and unconditional love. A quote I remember her grandson John had said on her last day while in the hospital surrounded by all her family was "such a beautiful women has made a huge impact on so many people and has been able to bring all her family together to be by her side before going to be with god".
