Obituary of Roy Ferrara

Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roy Ferrara We mourn today, for the passing of Roy Ferrara. The parting of our ways, that feels like it has happened much too soon, brings us sorrow and tears for our loss which we feel deeply, as Roy has been such a Rock to anchor our lives upon. And though we know that life ends for us all, we would choose to remember Roy as a vigorous participant in life, as vital and involved in life as anyone could ask. Roy never took a back seat on the highway of life. He sat in the driver's seat with authority, with no doubts of that being the right place for him to be. He served with honor in the Korean War with the Military Police, and when his service was through, and the time was right, he had the luckiest blind date of his life, and met the woman who would become his wife, Carmela "Millie" Garofalo. The woman he would spend 61 of the best years of his life with, and have four children with, who all grew up in a loving family. He carried his family forward into the future with him, always with careful planning to take the safest routes, but always making sure to take time to stop to see some of the sights along the way, creating many lasting memories for all. Roy was also an excellent teacher by the example of the life he lived. All one had to do was be with him, and watch him and hear him, to see this was a man who was street-wise as only someone who grew up in Brooklyn could be, and to all his children he gave some of that skill. And for anyone else who was lucky enough to be around, Roy could teach them a thing or two about the art of the deal. You could see the twinkle in his eye, and his smile, as he would tell you one of his many stories. Many people who met him commented that they wished they could be as good as he was, especially if they ever saw the way the car dealers would try to hide when they saw him coming to buy a new car, and you could hear them say "Oh no, here comes Ferrara again!" Roy's many hobbies and interests go from playing the clarinet to playing on bowling leagues. From his involvement with helping the worthy causes of his church, to his hard work in restoring and renting out his apartments, all the while bringing good conversation, music, help, shelter, knowledge and friendship to many, many lives. And as we all know, his family was his everything to him. He was always there whenever one of his children needed help or advice, and would show up on their doorstep, with a toolbox, a smile, some advice or whatever was needed to keep his kids going. We miss him now, and will always miss him. And as we will all be called Home, so Roy has gone on before us. But that is Roy, he wants to ensure the way is safe and clear for all of us to follow. And he will be there to greet each one of us when we are called Home, too. By being fortunate enough to have known Roy, and been a part of his life, Roy has become a part of our lives. And because he has touched our lives so deeply, he will always be with us and be a part of us. He leaves behind his wife Carmela, daughters Loretta, Jean, Debra, son Richard with respective spouses Joe, Jerry and Genevieve and only granddaughter Veronique and younger brother Joe Ferrara. We'll see you soon, Roy! God Bless You!
