George Bernard “Bigs” Helbig, JR. 61 of Davie, Florida passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Born March 5, 1956 in New York City to his loving parents Marylou Mariani Helbig and The late George Bernard Helbig. Beloved husband of Denise M. Saiya Helbig of 28 years. Devoted father of Genelle “Jason” Balough, Karamarie Helbig and George Bernard Helbig, III. Dearest brother of Barbara “Jasper” Kassay, Michael Helbig and Thomas Helbig. Cherished Brother- In- Law to Janice “Jorge” Saiya Gonzalez, Jean and Gene Zace, Vincent and Karen Saiya. Dear Grandfather of Ava and Jack Balough. Loving uncle to Jorge "Stephanie", Antonio, Jasper III "Melyssa",Timothy and Brian. Loving Great Uncle of Jace, Summer and Jasper IV. Loving Son- In- Law to Vincent Saiya and The late Georgette Saiya. A friend to many. A resident of South Florida since 1992 formerly of Smithtown, Long Island New York. George worked in the Auto internet sales Industry for Ed Morse at Bayview Cadillac in Fort Lauderdale.
George was as good a person as they come. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. George loved his wife and children. He was proud of all 3 of his children. He loved his beautiful daughters Genelle and Karamarie and proud of all of their accomplishments. Watching his son George playing baseball was one of his biggest joys. He was a die hard Yankee fan. To meet him was to love him with a dynamic personality and a genuine passion for helping people. There was nothing George wouldn’t do for you. There was no request too crazy for George! His strong will and stubborn personality were also part of his charm. In Repose Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. with evening prayer service at Joseph A. Scarano Stirling Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. David Catholic Church Davie, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The American Heart Association and/or to Joe DiMaggio children’s hospital in Hollywood, Florida.
