Obituary of Austin Wallace
Austin X. Wallace died on July 20, 2018 at his home in Pembroke Pines, FL. He was born in Baltimore City, MD on March 6, 1946 to Thompson A. Wallace and Evelyn M. Wallace (nee Wills). He was raised at his parents' home in the Lauraville section of Baltimore City. He graduated from St. Dominic elementary school in 1960, Towson Catholic High School in 1964, and the University of Baltimore in 1968. From 1968 to 1970 he was on active duty with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from military service, he was employed by a private accounting firm in Baltimore City. He then changed careers from the private sector to the Federal government becoming employed as an auditor for the U.S. Customs Service in Baltimore City. In 1982 the Baltimore office closed and he was transferred to the Miami area. Following Federal agency realignments subsequent to the 9/11 terrorist attacks he worked for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) under the Department of Homeland Security where he became responsible for the financial aspects of undercover operations. He was also a quest instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia teaching Accounting Techniques for Undercover Operations. He retired from Federal service on January 3, 2007. Austin was a devout Catholic from his altar boy days at St. Dominic's to his service later at two Florida parishes - first at St. Boniface and finally at St. Edward's. At St. Edwards he was responsible for over 90 altar servers as well as at various times serving as Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, and Lector. On April 23, 2015 he received an award from St. Edward's citing "In Grateful Appreciation of Your Years of Loyal, Faithful, and Dedicated Service." His hobbies included photography, golf, model trains, fishing, and travel. His love of travel began early as a child with trips to Florida, California, and Hawaii with his parents. Following his move to Florida, he made annual driving trips north to visit and to savor his favorite dinners of Maryland crab cakes and crab soup.He is survived by his first cousins Paulette Samariga, Mount Dora, Florida and Gregory Wills, Fredrick, Maryland. Viewing will be at Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024 Monday, August 6th 7:00 P.M. to 9 :00 P.M.Funeral will be held on Tuesday the 7th of August at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Edward Catholic Church 19000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines,Florida followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Gardens next to his parents.
