Obituary of Genevieve Schwendel

Please share a memory of Genevieve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Genevieve (Gensie) Schwendel

Genevieve was born in New York City October 13, 1923. She was preceded in death by her father William Marr, mother Lily Robson Marr, sister Violet (Sally) Powell and husband Paul Schwendel. She is survived by her children Christine Schwendel, Frederick (Zadia) Schwendel, William Schwendel, Stephen Powell, and Pauline (Richard) Kelly; and grandchildren Lauren (Joshua) Schwendel-Goldberg, Lindsay Schwendel, Meaghan Kelly, Alyssa Kelly, Hannah Kelly and Paul John (PJ) Schwendel.

Prior to her marriage to Paul, Genevieve followed in the footsteps of her parents in the entertainment field, performing with her sister and her cousin Pat in their singing trio and later as a singer and dancer with various entertainment companies. She also obtained a nursing license and worked as private duty nurse.

Most importantly, Gensie is remembered for her devotion to God and to her family. She lived every day with a deep faith in God and her constant prayers for everyone. Gensie raised five children and then spent many years as the primary caregiver for her mother Lily, mother-in-law Emma, great-aunt Violet, and her husband Paul, in addition to her role as grandma/babysitter.

Combining faith in God with service to others, Gensie provided a stellar example of how we should all aspire to live our lives.
