Obituary of Louis J. Tasse
Dr. Louis J. Tasse, 88, of Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away May 1, 2019.
Dr. Tasse was born on Feb 6, 1931 in Rocky River, OH, to the late Joseph and Mary (Nucci) Tasse. He was married to Carol Metger in 1955. Preceding him in death were his wife of 55 yrs., his parents, and his siblings Yolanda, Orlando, Leo, Jeanne, Helen, and Donald. Surviving him are six children: Cynthia (Urban) Engel of Sycamore, OH, Gregory Tasse of Tiffin, OH, Jennifer (Lon) Corry of Pembroke Pines, FL, John (Lisa) Tasse previously of Cooper City, FL, Timothy (Laura) Tasse of Gibsonburg, OH, and Pamela Mortimer of Euclid, OH; 15 grandchildren Nicholas, Jason, Katie, Joseph, Steven, Valerie, Carolyn, Beverly, Matthew, Zachary, Sarah, Erin, Carrie, Ryan, Jenna; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Lou was a graduate of Rocky River High School where he played sports and excelled academically. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Heidelberg University in 1953, where he was a member of Excelsior Men’s Society. Lou served in the Army and was stationed in Greenland during the Korean War. Later he obtained his Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University and then his PhD in Education from Michigan State University.
Dr. Tasse was employed as a Community School Director in Flint, MI after getting married and then moved to Miami, FL in 1960 where he pioneered Miami-Dade County Community Schools. He was the first Community School Director at Ada Merritt. He then became the Miami-Dade County School Administrator. During his tenure he received numerous awards for his work including “Educator of the Year”. He was very active with charitable organizations and in the Catholic Church. He received many community awards such as “Big Brother of the Year” and Catholic “Cursillo”. Lou was also given a key to the city of Miami Beach, FL and received several proclamations declaring Louis J. Tasse Day. He retired from Dade County Schools and then began a new business venture owning and operating five Wicks N Sticks stores with his wife Carol. He won awards for his success in business. He also was an avid sports fan. Most of all, he loved his wife and family more than anything and enjoyed spending time with them.
Memorial Visitation is Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 4 pm to 9 pm at Scarano Funeral Home at 9000 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, FL. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11:30 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in the Chapel at 701 N. Hiatus Road in Pembroke Pines, FL. Reception following Mass at The Fairfield Inn 1650 S.W. 145 Avenue, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33027.
