Obituary for Lourdes Fernandez April 22, 1945 to May 3, 2019.

Lourdes was born in the Dominican Republic to father Manuel Fernandez and mother Inocencia Batista.

The eldest daughter of 13 children, Lourdes often found her self in the role of second mother to her siblings.

In her early 20s, she and her husband Hilton Cordero immigrated to the United States. Lourdes then dedicated herself to obtaining visas for all of her brothers and sisters, and other family, most of whom would resettle in the United States and start families of their own.

Hilton and Lourdes had three daughters named Lourdes, Rosanna and Jeannie Cordero. Daughter Lourdes passed away at three months of age, due to medical complications. She was very loved by her parents and her memory was shared with Rosanna and Jeannie often, so much so, that she was never forgotten.

Lourdes and Hilton divorced when Rosanna was 4  and Jeannie was 1. Lourdes continued to work hard to raise her daughters, teach them good moral character, encouraging the importance of an education for their future. She worked full time and took care of the home, took her daughters to church on Sundays and attended all of the extended family events that come with being one of thirteen siblings.

Although not being able to provide much materially, Lourdes made sure that Rosanna and Jeannie never wanted  for anything. She ensured they had all the love, laughter and family needed to fill up one’s soul. Some of their favorite memories with their mom included roller skating trips to Central Park, Ice skating in Flushing Meadows Park, and going to watch Barnum and Bailey Circus and The Ice Capades at Madison Square Garden.

Lourdes put both of her daughters through college, sometimes working up to three jobs. She had the support of her brothers and sisters, who helped in any way they could. She also had the support of Hilton and his wife Coralia Cordero, whom she would form a relationship built on the mutual love they had for each others children (Yra Cordero and Hilton Christopher Cordero).  Lourdes would often say that her daughters were her greatest achievement.

Rosanna eventually achieved a Masters degree in Public Administration and is a Police Major with the Miami-Dade Police Department. Jeannie obtained a Bachelors degree in Spanish and is currently the Regional Logistics Loss Prevention Manager for Amazon.

Lourdes is survived by her daughter, Rosanna Cordero-Stutz, son in law Kurt Stutz, grandson Evan Stutz, daughter Jeannie Tatis, son in law Juan Luis Tatis, grandson Jeremy Tatis and grand daughter Jamie Tatis. She is also survived by her many brothers and sisters, Josefina Diaz, Julia Teresa Delgado, Clara de Jesus, Carmen Fernandez, Ramon Fernandez, Miguel Fernandez, Angel Fernandez, Rafelo Fernandez, Radame Fernandez, and Carmelo Fernandez. She was predeceased by her elder brother Napoleon Fernandez.  Lourdes will be buried in Guayabal, Dominican Republic beside her mother, as it was her final wish.

In Repose Friday, May 10, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Funeral Service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will take place in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Arrangements by Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024.
