Obituary of Aurelia Anna Corea

Please share a memory of Aurelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Aurelia “Gloria” Anna Corea (née Rocco) died peacefully in Sunrise, FL on May 22, 2019 at age 89.

Aurelia was born to Bernadino and Carmela Rocco on May 18, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey.  She attended and graduated from high school in Union City, NJ. She married Gerard Corea in 1952, and they lived together in North Bergen, Fairview, and Palisades Park, NJ before moving to Margate, Florida in 1980.  Together they raised three beautiful children. After Gerard’s death, she moved to Pembroke Pines, FL, where she lived until her passing.

She leaves as her legacy three children: Patricia, Gerard, and Joseph.  She also leaves to cherish her memory two wonderful grandchildren Anthony and Mary, two siblings Amelia (“Amy”) and Anthony, and her dog Muffin.  She is remembered as a beautiful, loving, caring, devoted, strong, loud, and hilarious wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by Gerard Corea, (husband), Ralph Rocco, (brother), Esther Hedges, (sister-in-law), and Sebastian “Sibby” Corea (brother-in-law).

Aurelia was first and foremost a mother and grandmother. She loved to cook for and feed her family, many times forcefully after they were already full. Her famous shrimp parmigiana caused fights every Christmas Eve among family members competing for their share.

She always enjoyed going to the beach and before moving to Florida vacationed every summer in Seaside Heights, NJ. She was always a devout Catholic and had a very deep faith.

In her later years, she also loved volunteering in the Hollybrook office where she lived and handing out bingo cards with her unique gusto every Thursday night. She loved watching her Lifetime movies and critiquing contestants on the Gameshow Network and “her show” (Wheel of Fortune) while enjoying her Cheetos and Diet Pepsi and the occasional Mocha Frappe.

Aurelia had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved hearing a good joke, and she never failed to make those around her laugh. She will be dearly missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting her.

Aurelia will be in repose Friday, May 24, 2019 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm with an evening prayer service. Funeral mass is scheduled for 10am on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 7450 Stirling Road, Hollywood, Florida 33024. Arrangements by Joseph A.
