Obituary of Theresa Marie Fischetti

Theresa Marie Dunlop Fischetti was born on July 23, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to her loving parents Alexander and Mary (née Skillen) Dunlop.   She passed into eternal rest on Thursday, May 30, 2019, in Miramar, Florida, surrounded by her adoring family after a long illness.   She was lovingly cared for in her final years by Dorothy Maxwell, to whom we will be forever grateful.  Theresa was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Michael Fischetti in 2016. She was also predeceased by her beloved sisters and brother, Anne (Dunlop) McTighe, Rose (Dunlop) McDermott, and Edward Dunlop. 

She is fondly remembered as the devoted mother to Michael (widower of Diane Sedley Fischetti), Patrick (Jennifer), Kathy (Frank) Rubio, and Christine (Eric) Tweddle.

She was the loving grandmother of Catherine, Michael and Caroline Fischetti; Sara Fischetti; Jacquelyn, Jessalynn, Daniel, Thomas and Frank Rubio; and Andrew, Matthew, and Ryan Tweddle.

Theresa also leaves behind a large, extended family. She loved her many nieces and nephews, and their families.

Theresa and her husband relocated with their family to South Florida in 1976. After raising her family, she worked in Alumni Relations at Nova Southeastern University for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed her friendships there immensely.

We remember her for being extremely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was exceptionally well-read and enjoyed keeping up with current events. We miss talking with her about news events, moral dilemmas, and happenings around the world, in our community and in our own lives. She was a touchstone for her family for doing the right thing, and set an unwavering example for living an honest, exemplary life.

Visitation with the family will be at Joseph A. Scarano Stirling Memorial Chapel, 6970 Stirling Road, Hollywood, FL 33024, on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 2:00pm-5:00pm and 7:00pm-10:00pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday June 5, 2019, at 11:30 am, at St. David Catholic Church, 3900 South University Drive
