Obituary of John Joseph Lombardo

John Joseph Lombardo was born in Brooklyn, New York August 12, 1936 to Josephine Lombardo and Anthony  Lombardo. He was in the U.S. Navy for four years where he also played baseball, a sport he dearly loved. He married Virginia Pazienza on April 4, 1959. John joined the New York City Police Department in 1961 where he stayed until moving his family to Florida in the summer of 1972.

 There he joined the Pembroke Pines Police Department quickly moving up the ranks, until becoming their Police Chief. He retired from the Police Department in 1994.

He spent his retirement traveling with his wife Virginia and also spent time helping coach his grandsons on their baseball teams and also spectating. He was also active in the St. Boniface Catholic Church donating time and money. He is survived by wife Virginia, daughters Toni, son in law Chuck, Lori son in law Glenn, Lana with finance Mike. His sisters Josephine and Tessie. His grandchildren Amanda Gonzalez and husband Eric. John Merrill, Mike Merrill, Glenn Gainey, Thomas Merrill and Anthony Tropeano whom he helped raise as his own for 16 years. His great grandchildren Alexis Merrill, Emma and Eric Gonzalez, Glenn Gainey III and fifth great grandchild on the way Jett Dawson.  In Repose Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Evening Prayer Service. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:30 A.M.  at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church 701 N. Hiatus Road, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33026. following Entombment at Hollywood Memorial Gardens North Cemetery. Arrangements by Joseph A.
