The Beginning
Norma Clare Williams was born on October 23, 1931 to Sylvia Grant and Reginal Williams in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. Her mother, a single parent, moved to Kingston with Norma and her brothers Lloyd and Carl. From the age of 9, she
attended Alpha Academy for Girls which help to mold her in the loving and kindhearted woman she became. Over the years she was called “Bands of Mercy”, because she would open her home to many less fortunate individuals and help them to get back on their feet.
The Journey
Norma was an entrepreneur and at an early age started her business called Fit U Dressmaking in Kingston, Jamaica. As the name of her business stated, her
customers came to her for her design and perfect fitting masterpieces. Norma's real genius was her ability to free hand cut. She could replicate anything she saw.
Norma was a single mother of six children, one boy (deceased – Winston) and five girls. She was a very resourceful woman and ensured that there was always food on the table and a comfortable roof over our heads. She instilled many values in her children, especially the need to be independent. She loved to dance and she sang like a bird. She loved flowers, her favorites were gerberas, roses, bougainvillea, and jasmine.
In 1990 she migrated to the United States to join her daughter Carol. Her nurturing qualities prompted her to earn her income caring for children and the elderly.
She played a very active roll in the raising of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent the last 10 years of her life with her grandson Rayondo Lee and played an integral part in raising his son Rorick.
The Transition
Norma Clare Williams made her transition peacefully at 10:35am on Thursday,
August 1, 2019. The day Jamaica celebrates Emancipation Day, Norma
experienced her own emancipation and was set free to be with God. May her soul rest in peace.
Norma was proceeded by her son Winston in 1982 and grandson Khajeel in 2011.
