OBITUARY

LEVERMORE, Iona (née Baldie)

Iona transitioned peacefully at home on November 24, 2019 after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  Late of Kingston and Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica; Brooklyn and Queens, New York; Washington, DC; and Pembroke Pines, Florida, this sister, wife, friend, mother, grandmother and aunt to many will be sadly missed. Even though the mind of this experienced, caring and dedicated Registered Nurse (Howard University Hospital, 30+years) and administrative professional remained sharp and active, she became effectively “trapped” inside her body by this debilitating disease.

She leaves behind to recall many precious memories her beloved husband of 54 years, John; daughter Jinean (Damien Carter), grandchildren Sydnee and Nicolaus, sisters Patricia (Will Aguebor), Yvonne (Cheddi Cottrell), Dorrit Del Marr; brothers Donald and Norman Baldie. Iona also leaves brothers in law David (Iveen Joye), Lloyd (Gloria), Patrick (Joan), Sister in law Claudette, cousins, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. Iona was preceded by her brother Patrick, sister in law Yvonne and brother in law Oswald.

The family extends special thanks to Zeeta “Lou” Ababio for making Iona’s final journey peaceful and dignified. The family is also appreciative for the outpouring of love, texts, calls and visits from friends and relatives to Iona during her brief illness and on her passing.

Relatives and friends will be welcomed during a visitation at Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel at 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, Florida, 33024 on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. Note, this is not a viewing; at the visitation, memories will be recalled about Iona’s life.

The celebration of the life of Iona Baldie Levermore will be held at the Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church at 2801 N University Dr, Hollywood, FL 33024 on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.   Cremation will follow at a later date.  Attendees for both events are requested to wear HAPPY, BRIGHT AND VIBRANT COLORS in acknowledgement of a life well lived.
