Maria Raquel del Carmen Rodriguez conocida como “Raquel Rodriguez” Maria Raquel del Carmen Rodriguez falleció el domingo 22 de diciembre del 2019 en el hospital Palmetto General en Hialeah, Florida. Raquel, como ella prefería ser llamada, nació el 1ro de diciembre de 1924, a Gonzalo Blanco Blanco y a Mercedes Varela Carnero en Palma Soriano, Cuba. El 8 de diciembre del 1945, se casó con Lorenzo Rodriguez Cardenas en la iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Palma Soriano. Raquel y Lorenzo tuvieron cinco hijos. En octubre de 1960, para escapar el comunismo, la familia emigró a la Ciudad de Nueva York. Pronto se les unieron su madre y su hermano Raúl Blanco. Raquel disfrutó el crecimiento de su familia: de los cinco hijos, doce nietos y diecisiete biznietos. En el 2004, Raquel se mudo al Sur de la Florida, inicialmente a un condominio en Century Village, en Pembroke Pines. Bisnietos: Christopher Alexander Rodriguez, Victoria Mercedes Sullivan, Riley Katelyn Rodriguez, Chloe Rae McCarthy, Judah Rey McCarthy, Sofia Vincenza Rodriguez, Michael Antonio Rodriguez, Joseph Rodrigo Verba, Gabriel David Verba, Makenzie Marie Hall, David Matthew Hall, Jacob Mattingly Hall, Avery Maddison Kathleen Hall, Ryane Miller Rodriguez, Hayes Rodriguez, Mia Adelina Rodriguez and Cameron James Rodriguez. Le sobreviven también su hermano Raúl Blanco y su esposa Nayesda y numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas. Maria Raquel del Carmen Rodriguez also known as “Raquel Rodriguez” Maria Raquel del Carmen Rodriguez passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. Raquel, as she preferred to be called, was born on December 1, 1924, to Gonzalo Blanco Blanco and Mercedes Varela Carnero in Palma Soriano, Cuba. On December 8, 1945 she married Lorenzo Rodriguez Cardenas at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Palma Soriano. Raquel and Lorenzo had five sons In October 1960, to escape Communism, the family migrated to New York City. They were later joined by Raquel’s mother and brother Raul Blanco. Raquel enjoyed the growth of her family: from the five sons, twelve grandchildren and seventeen greatgrandchildren. In 2004, she moved to South Florida, initially to a condominium in Century Village of Pembroke Pines. She moved to Epworth Village Retirement Community in September 2018, where she lived until her death. Raquel is survived by her children: Lorenzo Antonio and wife Mercy, Gonzalo and wife Ana, Gustavo and wife Kathy, Roberto and wife Teri and Carlos Alberto and wife Judith; grandchildren: Mercedes Teresita (Mercy Tere) and husband Patrick Sullivan, Lorenzo Jose (LJ), Daniel Ricardo (Danny) and wife Amber, Cristina and husband Steven McCarthy, Pamela and husband Josh Evans, Gonzalo, Michael Gustavo and wife Gina, Jaclyn and husband Steven Verba, Claudia and husband Matthew Hall, Gregg and wife Jamie, Teresa Diana (TD) and husband Paul Bradley, Robert James and wife Macle. Greatgrandchildren: Christopher Alexander Rodriguez, Victoria Mercedes Sullivan, Riley Katelyn Rodriguez, Chloe Rae McCarthy, Judah Rey McCarthy, Sofia Vincenza Rodriguez, Michael Antonio Rodriguez, Joseph Rodrigo Verba, Gabriel David Verba, Makenzie Marie Hall, David Matthew Hall, Jacob Mattingly Hall, Avery Maddison Kathleen Hall, Ryane Miller Rodriguez, Hayes Rodriguez, Mia Adelina Rodriguez and Cameron James Rodriguez. Also surviving her: brother Raul Blanco and wife Nayesda and numerous nephews and nieces. Viewing will take place at Scarano Funeral Home, 9000 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines, FL on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 4:00 – 9:00 PM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 4597 West 1st Ave., Hialeah, FL. Her remains will be taken to New Jersey to be buried with her late husband and mother. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Raquel’s favorite Charity: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
