Obituary of Sandra M. Figueroa

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra Figueroa was born in Minneapolis, MN, to Richard Gillis and Becky (Kitzman) Gillis on August 16, 1944. As one of the oldest of thirteen children, she had nine brothers and three sisters she treasured. She grew up in South Florida, meeting the love of her life, Victor Figueroa, and his 11 siblings while attending grade school. They married on October 14, 1964, in Frankfurt, Germany, cementing the lifelong bond between the two families. They were married for 55 years, a relationship that has been a gift for them, and everyone they know and love, including their six children. After a year long battle with AML, she died peacefully at home on June 3, 2020, surrounded by her loving husband and their six children. We could spend years writing about all of the special qualities and loving characteristics that made up the beautiful essence of our mother, and even more time describing the incredible life, lessons, cherished times and adventures we shared, and still not reach an end. She was strong, loyal, intelligent, thoughtful, honest, brave, considerate, imaginative, unselfish, happy, silly, respectful, just to name a few. God and family were her life long motto and she spent every day giving thanks and praise to both. When she received her diagnosis, her response was - “I’m not afraid of death, I cant wait to meet Jesus! It’s the dying part I can do without.” She was one of a kind in every way and we are forever grateful for having been given such a gift. Though the world already seems darker without her, Heaven just became that much brighter to one day help guide us home. You were our everything Mom, we love you. She is survived by her husband, six children, twelve grandchildren, one great grand-child, her many siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Given the current and very real concerns of Covid-19, services at the viewing and funeral will adhere to strict precautions, including social distancing, and use of masks, and preclude broad attendance at the burial. Additionally, many of you are or have family members who may be at increased risk. We respect and honor the act of love and sacrifice that may require you to be absent. Our hearts go out to all of you who are feeling this loss as well. Arrangements by Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel-9000 Pines Boulevard Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024. Please keep the Figueroa family in your prayers.
