Obituary: Gary Walters
Gary Walters, 58, passed away on January 7, 2017 surrounded by family, friends and the sounds of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". He emphasized living life with joy and courage, reminding his daughters to commit daily to doing something that they fear. With every exchange, Gary expressed deep empathy and compassion for those around him, subsequently impacting the lives of everyone from his patients and lifelong friends to his chemotherapy nurses and pool store managers.
Gary received the "Legacy Award" this past October to celebrate his tremendous career as a Physical Therapist and healthcare provider. He created quite the legacy in his time, working in the field for 35 years, serving as the President of the Florida Physical Therapy Association, providing mentorship to countless practitioners and improving the lives of thousands of patients. He was closely involved with The Special Olympics and believed profoundly in living a life of service.
Gary loved nothing more than being by the sea: from fishing to boating to long beach walks, he found his peace in the water. He sought adventure, from driving an RV cross-country to the Grand Canyon to scaling glaciers in Canada. He has inspired everyone around him to see life as the grand adventure that it is.
The loves of his life were his wife, Belinda, and daughters, Brittany and Kaitlyn. He was a beloved son, husband, brother and father; he is survived by his mother, Jean, his wife, Belinda, his daughters, Kaitlyn and Brittany, his brother, Russ Walters and many nieces, nephews and cousins worldwide. A memorial service will be held in his honor and donations can be made in his name to "Charity for Champions" at http://charityforchampions.org/.
