Obituary of Peter James Grillo

Peter James Grillo, Sr. passed away on January 20, 2021 - one month shy of his 91st birthday. Pete was a resident of Century Village, Pembroke Pines, Florida, where he and his wife of 67 years, Catherine (Kay), have lived full-time since 1995.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Pete graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and St. John’s University where he played baseball. He went on to serve with distinction in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. Upon returning to Brooklyn, Pete and Kay raised their three children, Peter Jr., Catherine, and James. Pete also enjoyed a close relationship with his sister, Nancy Baldanza, a resident of North Lauderdale. Pete and Kay relished spending time with their family, including their grandchildren, James and Joseph, the sons of Peter Jr. and his wife, Celeste.
Pete’s career in management was spent at several prominent New York firms, including Beefsteak Charlie’s, Bohack, and Nathan’s Famous. He also owned and operated T and S Italian Delicatessen in Brooklyn, which he managed with his youngest son, James. A stand-out athlete, Pete continued to play sandlot baseball into his early 40s and remained an avid fan of our National Pastime throughout his life. He was also an accomplished and decorated bowler and pool player.
Pete was predeceased by his parents, James (1904-1972) and Jean (1903-1995), and his youngest son, James (1963-2017).
Burial will be on February 8, 2021 at the South Florida Veteran’s Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.
