Richard “Dick” Charles Buskey, 90, of Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away on June 22, 2021.
Funeral service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery on July 6th, 2021, at 10 am with Deacon Pierre Douyon of St Maximillian-Kolbe Catholic Church officiating.
Richard was born in Cumberland, MD, to Richard J. and Mabel Simpson Buskey on January 1, 1931. After graduating high school, Dick served in the United States Marine Corps from July 9, 1949 to April 3, 1952. After his service, he embarked on his professional golf career at Cumberland Country Club as an Assistant Golf Professional to Carroll Boggs. Dick spent his winter months in sunny Florida, as Assistant Professional at the Breaker’s in Palm Beach. His next position was Head Professional at Opequon Country Club in Martinsburg, WV. He then returned to where it all began, as Head Professional at Cumberland Country Club, when Boggs moved to a management position. In 1967, Dick became the Head Professional at Rivers Bend Golf & Country Club in Everett, PA and remained there for 11 years. In 1978, Dick decided to relocate his family to South Florida, where the golf business eluded him and he worked at Calder Race Course as a Racing Official. But it wasn’t meant to be, golf was in his blood. He soon found himself back in the game, working as a teaching professional at American Golfers Club in Ft. Lauderdale. Dick later joined Orangebrook as a Golf Professional in 1981. The Southern Chapter of the PGA honored Dick as the “Teacher of the Year” in 1984. In 1985, Dick became Head Professional at Hollywood Lakes, now known as Grand Palms Country Club in Pembroke Pines. In addition to his teaching accomplishments, he was a skilled player, winning the PGA Southern Chapter Seniors Championship four times. Dick retired as Head Professional in 1996, and in 1997 he was named “Florida State Senior Honoree”.
Richard was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his 4 children, Chris, Richard, Shawn, Suzy and his 6 grandchildren, Rebecca, Richard, Julianne, Melissa, Meghna, and Nik. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Young Buskey and his sisters, Felicia and Catherine.
Dick was a friend to everyone he met; he was loved by so many and will truly be missed.
Please keep the Buskey family in your thoughts and prayers. The Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel is honored to assist the Buskey family. 954-438-8222
