Obituary of Peter A. Gentile

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter Anthony Gentile January 22, 1930 – July 7, 2021 Peter is survived by his gentle, lovely wife Teresa of 63 years, his daughter Rochelle and two sons, Mark and Glen. Peter’s days were brightened whenever he saw his children, his son-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandsons and great-granddaughter, along with a beautiful extended family, which he loved very much. Peter’s journey began on January 22, 1930 in Astoria Queens, NY. He was the youngest son to Julia and Pasquale Gentile. He had an older brother, John, who passed away too early in life some 20 years ago. Peter’s journey through life took him down many paths that molded him into the genuine, authentic, generous Patriarch that he was for the family. His family was the core to his life, as that is what he lived for. He loved conversations, no matter what the topic. He often spoke his mind and loved to hear everyone’s opinion on any matter of discussion. Throughout his journey he knew many people, the rich, the famous, and those less fortunate. He was more impressed with a person’s character, honesty and the way they treated and took care of their family. Material things in life did not impress him. He was just so down to earth and left the family feeling so loved when in his presence. He was blessed with many talents one of which was his athleticism. As a senior at Bryant High School in Astoria Queens, he was voted the Best Athlete. He was also chosen to be on the “All City Basketball Team” which represented the 10 best high school basketball players in New York City. One of his greatest life experiences was to play baseball with the N.Y. Yankees. At 18 years old, he signed a contract and was chosen to play for the N.Y. Yankee Organization. He played Triple A baseball and was brought up in the organization to play alongside legends like Joe DiMaggio, Micky Mantle and Whitey Ford before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served honorably as a Koran War Veteran. Later in life he loved to sketch and paint; he loved to play the accordion whenever possible and even took a stab at standup comedy at family gatherings. He was so amusing – a star in his family’s eyes and in our hearts forever. Peter was a good man who had a good heart and was an inspiration to all those around him. He was there to help his family and friends at any time. His family was always first in his eyes. The family has so many wonderful memories of Peter that will live in their hearts forever. Rest in Peace Peter Anthony Gentile, play in your field of dreams, and we will see you again one day. God bless you always.
