Obituary of James DePass

James "Jim" DePass, 80, passed away on August 24th, 2021 in Miami, FL. James was born in Kingston, Jamaica, British West Indies on May 1st, 1941. He is survived by his children, James “Jimmy” DePass, Paul DePass, Paula (Dale) Rabon, Jamie Breen, Sarah DePass, Toni DePass and Stephanie DePass, sister Patricia DePass and sister Lorraine (John) Ftizpatrick, brother Dennis DePass as well as nieces, nephews, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. James was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Elaine DePass, sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and George Walz, his son, Michael DePass, cousins Gerald “Jerry” Saulter, Robert “Robbie” Saulter, and Kenneth “Wally” and Carol Saulter as well as his nephew, Robbie Saulter, his daughter-in-law, Joyce DePass, his son-in-law, Adam Breen and his great-grandchild, MaryAnn DePass. Special recognition to the wonderful staff at the Grand Courts Independent Living Facility for being his friends and comfort for the last few years. James was a true patriot as he served in the Air Force for 22 years and served in the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he continued to serve his country through the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served as State Commander and then as a Regional National Council of Administration Member as well as a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and other veteran groups. He was known as a superb speaker and a voice of the veterans through many programs, including being a liaison after Hurricane Andrew hit his home in Homestead, FL in 1992. Family was the most important thing to James, and he will be remembered for his wisdom, his wit and his never-ending compassion and love. Viewing services will be held at Scarano Funeral Home (6970 Stirling Road, Davie, FL) on September 5th, 2021 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The Funeral will be performed the following day, September 6th, at South Florida Veterans Cemetery (6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL) at 10 am.
