Betty Jane (Akin) Shaw, 94, of Pembroke Pines, FL passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021.
Betty was the daughter of the late Wilmer Earl Akin and the late Edna Jewel Akin.
She was born in Miami, Florida and graduated from Andrew Jackson High. Betty is predeceased by her husband of almost 73 years, Walter M. Shaw, Jr. She is survived by her 3 children Daniel Shaw (Anita), Jeffrey Shaw (Susan), Janet Shaw Vones (Chuck, Jr.) Her 6 grandchildren: Jessica, Allison, Brittany, Casey, Sarah and Stephen and her 6, soon to be 8 great grandchildren.
*After raising their children in Hialeah, Walt was transferred to the San Francisco area. Betty and Walt took this opportunity to explore the West coast. After retirement they settled into Pembroke Pines. They spent summers in their treasured Dahlonega home with it’s huge vegetable garden.
Betty had many talents and passions in her lifetime. Starting with quilting, painting, photography, traveling, and genealogy research. She published two books on her family line and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Betty was also very proud of earning her AA degree in her 50’s.*
Betty and her husband Walter will be interred at the South Florida National Cemetery on a later date.
