Obituary of John W. Koontz

John W. Koontz, 73, of Davie, FL, died March 23, 2022, at HCA Florida Westside Hospital in Plantation, FL, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1948, in Detroit, MI, the son of Franklin J. Koontz and Maria Oswald Koontz. He earned an Associate of Science degree and was a youth specialist who counseled delinquent boys at W.J. Maxey Boys Training School in Whitmore Lake, MI. He moved to Florida after he retired more than 15 years ago. He is survived by his brother, Frank Koontz (Judy) of Lafayette, IN., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Catherine Koontz Shollack of Plymouth, MI. No service is planned, but St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital was among his favorite charities, if you care to donate in his name. Please keep the Koontz family in your prayers. The Joseph A.
