Obituary of Francis Hammond
Francis (Chandler) Hammond was born on December 24, 1933 in Detroit, MI to a 1930s “Show Biz” family and traveled with two of the Vaudeville darlings, Viola Walpole, his mother, and his devoted Aunt, Dorothy Walpole. His grandmother Martha Walpole was always close by overseeing all aspects of their lives.
He grew up in Detroit and lived in several places most notably California and Hawaii as a career salesman before meeting his beloved and devoted wife, Teresa, who he married in 1987. They shared their life in Florida for a few years before finally setting up residence in their forever home in Pembroke Pines in 1992. Teresa and Francis were married for over 35 years and she served as his committed care taker in his final years.
Although Francis was thousands of miles from family all over the U.S., he never failed to call and check in and send holiday cards to make sure you knew he cared about you. He was an animal lover, especially of cats. He leaves behind his beautiful cat, Kissy.
He was a devout Catholic and no trip to Michigan was complete without visiting the Assumption Grotto Church where he served as an altar boy as a child.
Francis is survived by his beautiful wife, Teresa Hammond, brother John (Marion) Hamelrath, brother Billy Hamelrath, two children Deborah Hamelrath and Michael Hamelrath, nieces, Lisa Kervick and Sarah (“Honeybee”) Kervick Mann, and two granddaughters, Alexandra (Alexander) Franko and Kristin Hamelrath.
