Wanda was born in Eccles, West Virginia, to Lawrence Willie Branscome and Hallie Hazel Kilgore on February 17, 1927. She grew up in a coal mining town and graduated from Mount Hope High School in 1945 where she was a majorette. Wanda married Carl after he was drafted into the Army Air Force and she worked as a telephone operator during WWII. In 1959, Wanda moved from Pax, WV, to Miami, FL, with her family where she worked at the Americana Hotel on Miami Beach with her mother. She enjoyed crafting, ceramic painting, picnicking, baking and canning. She attended church, sang in the choir, and read her Bible daily. Wanda lived by faith. She had a sweet disposition and always held concern for others. She often spoke of gratitude for the blessings in her life. She devoted herself to her family and showed her love every day. Wanda cherished visits with loved ones. In recent years, it was a joy to watch Nana light up around her great-grandchildren. Wanda’s family describes her as God’s gift of an example of the perfect mother and grandmother. Wanda’s life was a testimony of service, humility, and love.
Wanda is survived by her daughters Cheryle Lynn and Carla June; son Charles Dwayne; son-in-laws James and Ron; daughter-in-law Linda; grandchildren Stacy, Christine, Jennifer, Kristen, Jonathan, and Justin; and great-grandchildren Alexandra, Danielle, Jacqueline, Antonette, Julian, Nicholas, Molly, Scarlett, Cooper, Gabriel, Juniper, Logan, and Benjamin; as well as nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Snowden Humphrey, sister Norma Jean McGraw, and brother Billy Donald Branscome.
