Obituary of Dolores Jane Freyre
Dolores Jane Pupo Walker (Ita), of Davie, FL passed away at age 93 on June 5th, 2022 in
Ft, Lauderdale. Ita’s ashes will be scattered at Hallandale Beach during a ceremony to be planned
by her sons.
Ita was born in Athens, Tennessee to Hector Pupo and Mae Walker on April 4th, 1929.
She was raised in Cuba and attended Colegio los Amigos in Holguin, Cuba. She fled Cuba at the
age of thirty one with her four young sons and settled in North Miami, where she accepted into
her home many family members and friends seeking asylum from Cuba.
Ita worked a number of jobs to support her family, first as a cleaner in hospitality
immediately following her arrival from Cuba, and later as a lab tech at Coulter. Ita eventually
retired to a beachfront apartment on Hallandale Beach, where she spent the happiest years of her
life with friends and family at the beach. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing canasta and
bingo, and gardening. Ita was also an avid traveler and enjoyed visiting family and friends
around the country and abroad.
Most importantly, Ita was pure love. She lived for her sons, grandchildren, and other
family and friends, and was their North Star – a guiding light to all of them through her immense
wisdom, grace, empathy, and love.
Ita is survived by her four children (Raul, Julio, Jorge, Carlos) and their families.
Ita asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital in her memory. Email notifications can be sent to cfreyre@msn.com
