We would never forget Mr. J. Doo Lee's gentle smile. He was loving, sincere, and soft spoken. He humbly served the Lord and brothers and sisters in church with diligence and humility.
About 30 years ago, we took our two young children to visit Chicago from California. As soon as he found out we were in town, he invited us to lunch at their apartment even though they were in the process of relocating to Florida. Mrs. Lee cooked for us a lot of delicious food and Mr. Lee gave our children toys to play with in the car knowing that we would often got stuck in heavy traffic while on the road in Chicago. His thoughtfulness and loving hospitality will forever remembered.
We will miss him but thankful for God's promise that we would meet again one day in our Father's Heavenly home.

Mr. Lee was a good friend to our family ever since we began attending the Chinese Church of the Brethren in Oak Park, IL in the 1970s. Mr. & Mrs. Lee were the kind of people you wanted for friends. The Lee family was friendly and welcoming. No one was a stranger in their home.
His warmth and kind demeanor will be dearly missed. May it be a comfort to know that he is now in the hands of God and is resting with the angels.

Our father used to light a candle for those who were sick or in their memory wherever he went. Regardless the city, he would find a catholic church, light a candle and say a prayer. Today, we celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Lee (and Mr. Lee's mother). The Lees were such a powerful force in my personal spiritual growth (since I was 6 yrs old). May God comfort the family and friends.

My heart is heavy with the news of the loss of Mr. Joe Doo Lee. The Lee family has been friends to our family for over 50 years. I credit their fellowship with our family instrumental to our spiritual growth.
Strong in his faith, Mr. Lee mentored many at the Chinese Brethren Church of Oak Park..later Chinese Bible Church of Oak Park. Our father is no longer with us, but he considered Mr. Lee a best friend as even thousands of miles away and many years didn't stop Joe from nourishing our father's spiritual hunger. Our father would always marvel at Mr. Lee's thoughtfulness and generosity of sending him a subscription to Guidepost and Decision magazine year after year.
About a week before Joe went to reunite with Jane (and all that went before him) and meet Jesus and God, I was blessed to see Mr. Lee in Pembroke Pines. When working in Miami area it was convenient to see him often. I was able to coordinate with Esther to surprise their father with a visit from my work in northern Florida. I was able to fellowship with Mr. Lee and Jack before returning back to Orlando that evening. I made sure that Mr. Lee had got a treat from our time in Chicago. I stopped and grabbed a few Chicago Italian Beefs from Portillos. This could NEVER repay our fellowship on Ottawa Street and the trips to Dairy Queen blocks away on bible study nights or just gathering at their place. Later that week, I was able to return to Century Village to see Mr. Lee and Jack again.
Another favorite memory is The Lee family making sure our family had a ride to church by making a detour to Franklin Park to bring us to Oak Park. Truly a testament to his dedication to literally "bringing people to God".
I will always hear Mr. Lee's laugh and his boisterous voice echoing in my memories. He will be missed.
Lee family, we are blessed to have you and your folks in our lives all these years. We all share in your loss, please find comfort in knowing he is with Jane, his mother and Jesus. May you cherish in memories that every life that your family has touched.

I am so sorry for your loss of your father. He had always been a good person, one that I looked up to, and treated me fairly and defended me to others in the family when I was a young and rambunctious child. He understood youngsters and how they thought at that age and for that, I was very grateful to him.
He had told me a little about him being a driver in Germany during WWII and how scared he was, but basically he said “You gotta do what you gotta do”.
He came to the US to Chicago from Hong Kong, with Esther and his wife, Jane, and lived with us at our Oakdale house for a while, until he opened his own laundry business. We had visited him and his family quite often there.
Unfortunately, as we moved out to California, and he retired to Florida, we didn’t see each other as we would have liked.
My wife and I visited him – and stayed at his place, at Pembroke, Florida, near the Miami area, in 2009. We chatted and he told me that he enjoyed my daily emails, with animal and travel photos that I gleaned from the Internet, and he looked forward to them every day.
I shall always remember him, his faith in God, and how he treated everyone with dignity and understanding.

Esther, Jack and Dan,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Uncle Joe and your family are very dear to me. I have very fond memories of Uncle Joe and your frequent visits to my family in my earliest childhood days in Chicago. I greatly appreciate the kindness your family showed us. As you may know, I still keep every silver coin Uncle Joe gave me on each of his visits to our home. Your family was the only extended family we had in Chicago. I loved coming over to your home on holidays and playing ping pong in your basement. I was sad to see Uncle Joe and Aunt Jane move to Miami but I know it was good for them. Uncle Joe was a godly man and someone I greatly admired and respected.
I've attached the earliest photos I have of Uncle Joe. The first photo (1962) is of our two families having a meal (I'm the one with the spoon in my mouth). I have a few other photos of you all and I suspect Uncle Joe is photographer. The second photo (1966) is of Uncle Joe and my grandfather (left), our great grandfather (middle) and Uncle Joe. In recent years, I've come to learn some of the story of my ancestry on my father's side. I know little about my mother's side other than your family and my grandpa in Boston. I imagine it is a story of hardship, rebirth, setbacks and perseverance. I know now that the blessings that we have now can be credited much to our parents and their parents before them. The greatest gift however is raising us in homes and churches that have allowed us to come to know the Lord. Even at the ripe age of 96, Uncle Joe sent emails of encouragement and worship songs. I'm glad to hear that Uncle Joe still had a strong mind at that age!
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
I know this verse is true for me and I believe it is true for you as well. Uncle Joe and Aunt Jane are with the Lord. I thank God for their lives on this earth and how they were faithful to the end. I pray that the Lord comforts you in this time of loss but also that you are at peace knowing that are only "asleep" for now but will be raised first when Jesus returns for us all.

Uncle Joe, as we call him at church, was loved by our church. He was deeply devoted to his faith. I'll always remember his dedication and commitment to his wife, Aunt Jane, as he took care of her when she was ill even at his advanced age. It was truly a great testimony. I was blessed to be able to hear many of his life stories, especially his WWII experiences. I understand why he was loved by so many. He will be truly missed. Until we meet again. My condolences and prayers for the family.

My deepest condolences and prayers for the Lee family. I didn't know Joe personally but I knew a lot about him through Jack, both in description and in how he lives his life, clearly raised by great parents. I'm glad that Joe is united with his wife and God in heaven.
