Obituary of Carol Jean Matthews

Carol Jean Matthews, age 92, of Pembroke Pines Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 23rd, 2023. Her memorial service will be held at Scarano funeral home in Pembroke Pines on Saturday, October 28 at 3 PM. Carol was born in Chicago, Illinois on Christmas Eve, 1930. Hence, the name Carol. Her family moved to Miami when she was in her teens, and she graduated from Edison high school. She was married to her husband Joe for 67 years until his passing in 2018. She had a beautiful contagious smile. She was very creative, and she loved making beautiful things. She was a long-time member of the Southern Handcraft Society. She was very active as a mall walker, and she enjoyed classes and events at Southwest Focal Point. She took tai chi classes for many years. But her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter Marguerite, her son Mike and his wife Maria, and her son Marc and Janie. Her three grandchildren and their spouses are Marc Matthews and Hidetaka Sugimoto, Michele and Jared Grunwald, and Melissa and Mike Bauerlein. Her four great grandchildren are Parker, Cameron Lexi and Donovan. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to her favorite charity, Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
