Obituary of Richard Paul Goodrick

WESTON, FL—Richard Paul “Dick” Goodrick, age 93, of Weston Fl., and former Charleston, Il. resident, passed away peacefully Oct. 26, after a short illness. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10:30 a.m. after a 10 a.m. viewing at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Davie, FL., where he was a member. Burial will be in a family plot in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio. Dick grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Harry and Marie Goodrick. After graduation from Cleveland’s East High School, he attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he met his future wife, Evelyn. After serving a stint as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Governors Island, New York, he completed his master’s degree at Ohio State University in Columbus and his Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Dick taught at the University of Detroit in Detroit, MI., before joining the Political Science Department at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston in 1976. He served two terms as department chair before retiring. He was active in the Master Gardener program and the Coles County Democratic Party until he moved to Weston in 2016. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth (Michael Orfanedes) of Weston, Fl., Eve Goodrick (Charles Cossey) of Wauconda, Il., and Elaine Goodrick of Chicago, as well as five grandchildren, Sarah Orfanedes Radlinski (Brian) of Brookhaven, Ga., Nathan Orfanedes of Golden, Col., Alexander Orfanedes of Tallahassee, Fl., Vivian Cossey of Chicago, and Robert Cossey of Wauconda. His brother, Harry, and sister. In Repose Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church following Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M.
