Lawrence (Larry) Llewelyn Cartwright, 83, of Miami, FL, passed away on December 25, 2023 in Miami. Funeral service will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church, 3781 SW 39 St, West Park, FL on December 29 at Noon Mass with Father John Juszczak officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, North Lauderdale, FL. Scarano Funeral Homes will be handling the funeral arrangements. Larry was born in Andros, Bahamas to Lawrence & Callamay Cartwright on September 8, 1940. Larry grew up in Long Island, Bahamas, and moved to Nassau, Bahamas when he was 14. In 1963, Larry moved to Minnesota to marry the love of his life, Sandra. Larry worked for Honeywell 25 years as a Computer Engineer. Larry became a faithful man of God who exemplified the commandment: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself. Larry was an amazing golfer, fisherman & mechanic who freely shared his gifts of food, repairs, & instruction with anybody & everybody. Larry’s words of wisdom were legendary. As he often reminded us, “If I tell you a chicken can pull a plow, then you better hook it up!” Larry also enjoyed the title, “lord of the land and king of the high seas!” when recalling his boating adventures. Sandra fondly recalls how she and Larry met. Three lay missionaries expressed our feelings in one of many songs we made up: to the tune of Jamaican Farewell - “Down the hill in the place called the Niche lived three nurses, Kathy, Sandy, and Kay. They worked in the clinic and did public health in their missionary living every day.” We wanted to give up a year of our life for God working with the sick poor - but God gave us much more than we ever imagined. The first time I met Larry in Nassau, I was attracted to his smile, his voice, his mild manner, his humor; then when I saw him dance to Calypso music I was hooked! We have been together since that time in 1962. Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Craig (& Melodie), Brad (& Jeanette), & Dayle; his brother, Andy; his sister, Helen; and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Dylan, Ella, Steven, Noah, & Philip. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Callamay; brothers Drexel & Wendel, and his sister, Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Annunciation Church St Vincent De Paul Funeral Mass Friday, December 29, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at Annunciation Catholic Church- West Park, Florida following Burial at 2:00 P.M. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel is Honored to assist the Cartwright family with the arrangements.
