Obituary of Joycelin Opal Francis

Joycelin Opal Francis, affectionately known as Gea, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on July 2, 2024 at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Joycelin was born on February 24, 1942 in St, James, Jamaica to parents Uriah and Catherine Morrison. She attended Herbert Morrison High School in Montego Bay, Jamaica. After graduation she attended Bethlehem Teacher’s College where she earned her teaching certification. Joycelin then embarked on a successful teaching career in Jamaica. She also loved the theatre and honed her skills as a budding thespian at the School of Drama in Kingston, Jamaica.
Joycelin emigrated from Jamaica to the United States in 1989. She earned her Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Detroit Mercy and taught for many years in Michigan before retiring in 2007. She enjoyed a full and active life during retirement, including spending time with her beloved grandchildren, traveling, volunteering, teaching vacation bible school and making her delicious Christmas cakes every year.
Joycelin is survived by her brother, Pervis Morrison, her daughters, Sherylle Francis and Rhonda Stewart, her grandchildren, Cameron Gordon, Christian Stewart and Ryan Stewart, a host of nieces and nephews, friends and her beloved Riverside Baptist Church family.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Please keep the Francis family in your thoughts and prayers. The Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel is Honored to assist the Francis family with the arrangements.
