Sue Bradford, a compassionate nurse executive who dedicated her life to healthcareand family, passed away peacefully in 2024 at the age of 82. Her journey was markedby a gentle spirit, unwavering work ethic, and a deep love for both her family and animalcompanions.Sue's formative years were spent enjoying school and cherished moments at the lakewith her family. Her high school years highlighted her exceptional academicachievement and interpersonal skills. She knew at the age of 5, when she first saw anurse in her traditional uniform, that she would pursue a nursing career, and sheentered the field as a candy-striper.After graduating from nursing school, Sue spent a decade as a bedside nurse beforepursuing higher education. She earned her BSN in Nursing while balancing full-timework and raising two children. Her leadership qualities and people skills propelled her toaspire to the additional responsibilities of hospital administration, which led her tocomplete a Master's in Healthcare Administration at an elite university on weekends.Sue's career as a nurse executive spanned nearly 30 years across multiple majorhospitals and health systems in South Florida. One of her most notable achievementswas leading the nursing team at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines to earn theprestigious Magnet designation for nursing care, a distinction held by less than 10% ofU.S. hospitals. Recognized as an influential leader statewide, Sue was electedPresident of the Florida Organization for Nursing Leadership multiple times by herpeers. She was an avid gardener, educator, pianist, and reader.Sue met her husband, Phil Bradford, during nursing school, and they were married forover 60 years. She is survived by Phil, their son and daughter, and seven grandchildren.Sue Bradford's life exemplified dedication to healthcare improvement and anunwavering commitment to loved ones. Her impact on nursing leadership and hospitaladministration in South Florida will be remembered for years to come.
