I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Paul approximately 30 years ago and immediately knew that he was a renaissance man. He was a very wise soul and a very humble man. Musically talented beyond measure, knowing how to play a wide variety of instruments while at the same time being able to sing. He was a very positive fellow who would bring light to any room he entered. He loved to laugh and tell stories. He had a way of just making you feel good by being around him.
The love for his family was obvious and he did an outstanding job of raising his family. Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings were the best with Paul and his family. He was also a man of God and that drew me to like him even more. It was such a blessing to have Paul as my wife's Godfather for her baptism. All I can say is that I was privileged to know him, my life was enriched by knowing him and I hope I see him on the other side. Love you Paul!

I knew Paul for fifty years. I will miss my old friend dearly. We played many different gigs together over the years.
I first met Paul at the Newport hotel on a gig in Miami Beach. I remember his electric bass sounded more like a big upright bass. It was something about the pickup and the sound equalizer he used. It sounded great.
Some years later, I was fortunate to play some gigs with his LeGrande Salley big band. It was a fun band with the top guys in town.
Then, some years later, we formed an artistic jazz trio with our friend Jimmy Chapek. We called it jazzjones.
Paul was a great guy and would do anything for you. One day rehearsing at my house, he said you need a front patio here, so we can sit on the break and chill. Wouldn't you know Paul decided to install a little outdoor patio. I tried to help, but I am incompetent with tools. Paul was the kind of guy who could do just about anything. He made us a beautiful patio that we enjoyed on hour breaks.
We had a lot of fun and played a lot of music. I will miss Paul.

I went to Berklee School of Music with Paul, back in the 1969-70 and had the good fortune of playing in a band he formed while in school, a jazz trio with bass, piano, and drums. Paul was not only a great musician, he was a leader. He put the band together, he found the musicians, and he found the gigs. Paul sang and played base and was a consummate musician. I really feel his loss. He was one in a million. Paul and Margaret raised a wonderful family. What a love story. What a wonderful life!

So sad to hear about the passing of my Uncle Paul. My first memories of Paul was him playing his upright bass in my grandparents living room in Quincy Mass. I also remember him taking out his MFG speedboat in the Fore River in Quincy and Grandpa Graf worrying that the waves would swamp it because it was a lake boat. Paul wasn’t worried at all, always calm and cool. That’s how I always remember Paul, easy going and always willing to talk and give advice. In the 80’s myself, my brother Robert and sister Kathleen would drive down from Rhode Island during spring break and stay at uncle Paul’s and aunt Margaret’s in Florida. Paul always welcomed us to stay, I’m sure we drove them crazy. The last time I really got to talk to Paul was about two years ago while fixing his Lincoln. He stayed with me the whole time I was working on it and we had a really nice conversation. I’m going to miss those chats with my Uncle Paul. My condolences to Aunt Margaret, Michael, Caroline, and James.

Q: How did you meet Paul?

In all the years I've had the privilege of knowing Paul, I saw what a warm and kind person he was. He always lead with a smile, making everyone around him feel comfortable and accepted. The furthest back I can remember is when we visited Paul and his family when they lived in Detroit in the early 1970s. My cousin Mike and I crossed the street, which we weren’t supposed to do. Uncle Bubba (Paul) whooped our asses, and with a switch. Never forget that.
Other than that, being a damn Yankee, that’s lived in South Carolina most of my life, I can safely say that other than the Marshall Tucker Band, Paul LeGrande is the best musician to ever come out of the Palmetto State. He will sorely be missed and we love him dearly.

I can't come up with enough words to adequately express how much this man means to me, and so many others! Knowing Paul was such an Honor,
Meet him 38 years ago and was a father figure to me,
As I called him Dad.
Our bond grew stronger as I got older and we share special moments .
Boating, good food and even introduced him to his favorite boat shoes.
He really was an incredible man loved by so many.
I will miss you but knowing that you are now in a better place puts me at ease.

I will always remember sitting around listening to Paul tell stories, amazing stories. Paul was a great storyteller. One of my most treasured memories is Paul being my Godfather. He was there for my baptism, confirmation and first Holy Communion. Paul and Margaret being my Godparents and being with me on one of the most important days of my life will forever hold a place in my heart. I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your father and most of our second dad. Paul LaGrand. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
Paul was truly a remarkable person who made an unforgettable impression on all of us. I’ll always remember how he treated us kids with the same respect and kindness he showed adults, making us feel valued and heard. His warm, lighthearted nature turned your house into a second home for many of us—a place filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.

First God Bless Mr LeGrande and all the family. Peace be with all. Geez my foundest memories will always be hanging out at the lake house for what ever reason, big Dolphin game, U.M. I spent many years with the Legrande family in my teen and young adult years. Paul was always there with welcome arms and shared his wonderful family with all who would want to be a part of. As a kid growing up and running around North Miami with Mike and Tony, the front door of Paul LeGrandes home was always open. He was never unhappy to see you. Sadly I lost touch and too many years passed. Nonetheless I can still remember him with his kind and genuine smile. Paul playing quarterback for us in the parking lot across the street, setting up and breaking down the stage for the LeGrande Salley Orchestra and of course his friendly smile are some of the greatest memories. I 1st met Paul back in the late 80's at Southwest Broward Athletic Association. (SWBJAA) Paul was volunteering his time at SWBJAA as a Youth Tackle Football Coach. I knew him then as a loving Father and Husband, as well as an excellent Football Coach, and learned so much more about football as well as the the need to mold young kids into solid Human Beings! After and while coaching with Paul, I was fortunate enough to meet his Son Mike and his siblings, along with his Wife of many many years. It was then that I witnessed what a loyal, dedicated, Husband, Father and Grandfather he was and how this reflected in the personalities of the kids he coached through the years! I believe that we become who we are by the choices we make and the people who influence us as we grow. I was extremely fortunate to have had a handful of men who I looked up to and strived to be like as I grew. Of course, my father was my biggest role model, but there were a couple others who gave me different perspectives. Paul LeGrande was a part of my life from around 8 years old and well into my adult life. He was always there on weekends to play football all day, even after being up all night working showing me how to make your family the most important thing. As a teenager he would often give me advice, even if it was something I didn’t want to hear. As an adult he was still a mentor but was also a good friend. I’m sorry that I didn’t see him very often later in life, but as he had taught me, I was putting my family first. I feel fortunate to have known him and will miss him. RIP Paul…till we meet again.

He was always the most willing to help our program in any way he could. The entire family was always so supportive and it was my pleasure to be able to stay in touch over all these years. Great man, father, and musician!
Some of my fondest memories from my younger years is having the privilege of knowing Paul LeGrande and family. My father Dolph Castellano and Paul would forge their legacies as jazz greats on the South Florida jazz scene. Our dads played together at some of the top venues that Miami and Fort Lauderdale had to offer. Paul's bass playing was amazing and he could sing a great tune as well! My dad playing piano really enjoyed playing with Paul as their passion and love for the jazz genre was second to none.
Our families lived in the same neighborhood and needles to say I spent fun times with the LeGrande family. Paul would usually pick up my dad to go to the gigs they played, and my dad Dolph wasn't the most punctual and that usually turned onto Paul with Tuxedo and tails on throwing the football with me on warm Miami days waiting on my pops.
Paul prioritized family first and his legacy is cemented by his wonderful family that he leaves behind "Until we meet again on the other side." You will be missed and not forgotten. I am grateful I was able to see you a couple of years ago and share some laughs and get a hug. On behalf of the Castellano family we are grateful our families are connected to the beautiful music our fathers made together. Rest in peace

Paul and I were buddies. We always had our tuxes on, playing gigs, making money, walking around famous people. Paul was the talker and I was the sidekick, and that was okay with me. He was the show and had a hundred stories. He had all kinds of upright basses and was a good player. Paul LeGrande was my buddy.

Paul and I met at Berklee School of Music in Boston in 1966. We have been best of friends since, played music in the Freedom Band in Boston & Cape Cod in the 70's. Paul is a fantastic Bass player and great singer. To be in a band with him was a highlight in my music career.
To have known Paul LeGrande was a blessing from God.
To have been a close friend and Bro was a gift!
To know we were working to achieve the same accomplishments and music was a reward!
