Obituary of Rodney Tyler Penny

Rodney “Tyler” Penny went home to the Lord on January 2, 2025, at the age of 77 several
months after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke.
Tyler is survived by his wife of 25 years Linda Ivey Penny of Sunrise, Florida; his son William
“Rod” Penny and daughter-in-law Ana Gonzalez Penny of Miami, Florida; step-daughter
Jennifer Lannon and son-in-law Shaun Lannon of Pembroke Pines, Florida; grandchildren: Riley
Lannon, Connor Lannon, Caitlin Lannon, and Liam Penny; and his siblings: Jackie Jacoby of
Florida, Mary Newlin of Florida, and JR Penny of Texas. He is preceded in death by his
daughter Debbie Penny of Miami, Florida, and his parents: Evadine Penny and Julian Randall
Penny of Perrine, Florida.
Tyler was born on December 9, 1947 in Perrine, Florida. He graduated from Miami Palmetto
Senior High School in 1965 and from the University of Florida in 1970 with a degree in
Accounting. From 1971 to 1975, Tyler served in the Florida National Guard. His last
professional position, before retirement, was as the senior accountant for the Broward County
Public Library.
Tyler was passionate about sailing and woodworking, and often indulged in landscaping with
native plants. He loved lighthouses and joke-telling, and was generous with his time. He spent
many years volunteering at his church in Kendall, Florida before moving to Sunrise, Florida.
When his oldest grandkids were in scouting, he helped with making Pinewood Derby cars,
hauled water for their troop for the Barefoot Mailman hike, and helped several boys with their
Eagle projects, including his grandson Connor.
The viewing is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. and the memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. on
Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Joseph Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel: 9000 Pines Blvd.,
Pembroke Pines, Florida. A reception will follow the memorial service at the same location.
