Olive Finlay Bugg
June 16, 1923 "Tough Start in England"
Olive survives complicated birth. The doctor gives up on her to save her mother's life. her grandmother doesn't.... wraps her in a blanket and incubates her in the iron stove. Mother and daughter survive.
1925
Parents legally immigrate to Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, USA, in coal and steel region.
1925-35
Family survives The Great Depression... did not lose savings, did not lose home, cut some spending, did not waste, and Father mostly has job.
1940
Family relocates to Woodbury, New Jersey, but Olive has to endure being "new girl" as a senior at Woodbury High School, lifelong problem.
1941 "Preparing for World War II"
Her Father goes to work at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a master machinist and Olive becomes the only female "Aviation Supply Officer" for the U.S. Navy.
1946
With WWII won, Olive takes an "official job" as a "staffer at Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in Camden, New Jersey.
October 9, 1949
"Unathletic" Olive marries U.S. Army Veteran George S. Bugg, Jr. a local sports hero of note as high school Football quarterback and safety, basketball point guard, baseball shortstop, and track short and middle distance runner.
1951
The Buggs buy their own home in Woodbury, New Jersey.
1952 "More Birth Trauma"
Almost 48 hours in labor produces first son, Scott Finlay Bugg.
1956
Olive and George buy brand new home 1/2 mile from their first home.
1961
Second son Robert Tash Bugg born after "difficult" pregnancy
1962
Olive and family move to sunny Miami, Florida
1966
Olive starts part-time job at Burdines Department store as a "Customer Service Representative". Deals with thousands of customers and employee in her career. Despite new job, Olive remains active at church, in Kiwanettes, and as a Miami Edison Senior High School P.T.A. officer.
1976
Son Scott marries Janet Annunziato (of Miramar) and moves to Hollywood. Son Robert emerges as a Dade County schoolboy soccer star. Husband George's health begins gradually declining. After 14 years in Miami, visitors from "up North" continue to enjoy Olive's hospitality
1982
After 32 years of marriage, George dies after gallant fight with leukemia. Olive slowly recovers from tragedy, then Olive moves on.
1984
First grandchild born James Finlay Bugg
1986
Son Robert marries Toni Goltzene (of Cooper City) and moves to Cooper City.
1987
First granddaughter born Lauren Michele Bugg. Olive moves to an apartment in Pembroke Pines
1989
Granddaughter Liane Goltzene-Bugg born
1993
Grandsons (twins) Evan George and Dane Goltzene-Bugg born. Olive's childcare duties expand.
1995
Olives buys condo townhouse in Pembroke Pines... and is soon Vice President. Later, after property manager steals $49,000, she becomes President and volunter (unpaid) property manager saving fellow residents tens of thousands of dollars.
2000s
Olive reconnects with high school boyfriend Ken Risher. Regularly attends grandchildren's many athletic events. Travel with friends and relatives. Enjoys dining out ans still a Miami Dolphins fan. Continues reading variety of fiction and watching detective and crime television shows. Remains President and property manager of her condo association at 87. Still active at St. James-in-the-Hills Church. Struck down by a massive stroke affecting her right side and brain,and receiving medical attention as long as 15 hours later, Olive defy s the odds and survives to return home several months later with 24 hour personal care. Her quality of life gradually declines, as does her health despite excellent care. Thus, we are here today to celebrate her life, our memories of her, and to acknowledge her passing onto a better world.
