Obituary of Joan Glavin
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heaven was blessed to receive its newest angel, JOAN, on the morning of July 3rd, 2016.
Her life was blessed and filled with love, fun and excitement. On her journey to heaven she touched so many lives in so many ways. Her spirit lives on in all of the lives she blessed with her love and kindness.
Joan was born the 3rd of five sisters; Kay,Barbara, Maureen & Janie and two brothers ; Tommy & Mickey - in Brooklyn, New York on August 16th, 1939. Her Irish parents taught her the old world values and traditions that became her strength and an integral part of her amazing character.
She began her working life as a Secretary at the famous A.C.NIELSEN Ratings company in New York City. She effortlessly mingled with high powered executives and staff alike while always being the center of attention with her striking good looks, charm and glamour.
Joan met the love of her life at a singles dance at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn. This epic love affair joined their two souls into one as they began planning their future together.
Wedding bells blessed the marriage of these two young lovers as they wed at Holy Ghost Church on June 21st, 1958. in Brooklyn, NY So began the amazing love affair that they enjoyed for many years to come.
God showered his blessings in the form of two children a son, Joseph and a beautiful daughter, Teresa. Joan and Joey were incredible providers and worked several hard jobs to offer the family the very best of life and love with an unselfish spirit.
With Joan's guidance and vision they retired to Century Village in Florida in 1992. Those years were truly magical with a whirlwind of new friends, exciting trips & cruises and settling into their new condo. She even learned new crafts like pottery and stained glass so she could give her children unique and cherished gifts.
Her world changed forever on July 18th, 1998 with the birth of her granddaughter Tess Rowland. God smiled down from heaven as he shared this most precious gift with her and our family. Tess quickly became the ENTIRE world to her as she showered her with grandmotherly love.
Tess was never in need of an outside baby sitter or care giver as Joan & Joey spent many years nurturing Tess and raising her to be a magical and talented young lady. Much of her grandmother's spirit is alive in her today !!
Joan's amazingly big heart touched so many as evidenced by her long mailing lists of birthdays and anniversaries of friends and loved ones. Each month was not complete until the very last card was lovingly sealed and sent. Christmas was a true frenzy as she refined the massive mailings which started just after Thanksgiving.
Joan always thought of others before herself. She was an eternally loyal friend and sometimes a tough enemy if her children or family needed her protection. She was like a lioness to her many loved cubs.
Love affairs like the one she enjoyed with her beloved husband Joey are nearly impossible to find. For more than 58 years they cherished each other.
Like ELIZABETH TAYLOR and RICHARD BURTON they were like "GREEK GODS" with their breathtakingly good looks and passion. Their commitment to love and family, as well as each other, endured forever and will still.
We were saddened by her torturous journey as she bravely fought the Cancer that took her from us way too soon. But, in her name, let us hold dear those special moments of love, life and fun we shared with her during her lifetime.
In her name, and in her spirit, let's hold those we love close to us and enjoy every moment with them as we remember Joan, a mother to us all.
