Hugh
Lee Strump, affectionally known as “Huggy Bear”, 86 of Pembroke Pines, Florida passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. Born January 30, 1931 in New York, NY. Predeceased by his loving Edelia. He was the devoted father of Walter (& JoEllen) Strump, Jeffrey (& Suzanne) Strump and Greg (& Susan) Strump. He was also the cherished grandfather of Wesley, Natasha, Georgia, Shane and Corey Strump. A resident of S. Florida for over 58 years, formerly of New York City. He could often be found full of exuberance in his press box seat at thoroughbred horse racetracks. He was a well known handicapper and made the selections for the Lawton tip sheet. Huggy left this world at post-time for the 4th race of Florida Derby Day. True to form, his picks for that race were the winning trifecta of 2-3-7.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Gulfstream Park racetrack on Sunday, April 23rd at 11am, in the Sport of Kings Theatre. The racetrack is also going to dedicate the first race that day to him.
