Joanne’s Obituary Joanne Worthington Pearcy, age 84, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 while a resident at East Ridge Retirement Community in Cutler Bay, Florida. A visitation with family and friends will be held at Joseph A. Scarano Funeral Home, 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at New Horizon United Methodist Church, 5741 S. Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, Fl 33330. Joanne was born in Miami, Florida to Joseph and Freda Worthington. She is survived by her sons Phillip Pearcy, John Daniel Peary and Paul Pearcy, daughter-in-law Maureen, beloved grandson, Jake, siblings Jill McKinnon and Ronald Worthington, and sister-in-law Becky, as well as a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart Morgan C. Pearcy and her eldest son Mark Pearcy. Joanne graduated from Miami Jackson High School. She eventually obtained her associates degree while raising her four boys. She had a long career in the Miami-Dade Public School system as an office assistant where her co-workers became her extended family along the way. She finally retired to care for her grandson who was the light of her life. Joanne was a true matriarch, completely devoted to her family. She was a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend to many. She always enjoyed family gatherings whether it was yearly reunions, Easter in the back yard in South Miami, Christmas with extended family, or Thanksgiving where there was always an extra seat at the table for anyone in need of fellowship and friendship. She was also a dedicated Christian. After settling in South Miami to raise a family, she dedicated her heart and soul to the congregation at the First United Methodist Church of South Miami where she was an active participant as a Sunday school teacher, committee member, women’s circle leader, and craft fair organizer, to name a few. No church bake sale was ever organized on her watch without Joanne’s homemade goodies such as banana bread, brownies, cookies and cakes (recipe optional). She enjoyed arts and crafts including ceramics. Her family and friends cherish some of those pieces today. After relocating to Broward County in 1994, her devotion to the church continued when she joined the congregation at New Horizon United Methodist Church. She was welcomed with open arms and wasted no time establishing her mark. Armed with her hot glue gun, she brought her love for arts and crafts and instantly made an impact as a beloved church member. She loved preparing for and participating in the church’s yearly Fall festival as well as simply enjoying the fellowship of the church. She always welcomed new people in the community and the church, taking them under her wing. Joanne loved the outdoors and especially the beach. She spent many summers in the family’s beach cottage in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. She spent endless days combing the beach for shells while enjoying the Gulf breezes. She also enjoyed riding her bicycle, swimming, browsing garage sales, and gardening. She lived a long life guided by her faith and her devotion to caring for others. Her friends and family are comforted in knowing that she departed this life peacefully leaving an imprint on the hearts of those that were fortunate enough to know and love her. Memorial donations may be made to New Horizon United Methodist Church, 5741 S. Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33330.Celebration of Life Memorial Service Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Please keep the Pearcy family in your thoughts and prayers.
